FATHER BROWN’S CORNER
This Sunday that falls between Christmas and its octave has long been celebrated as the Feast of the Holy
Family. If on no other day of the year, certainly on this day we give God thanks for our family, however it
has been constituted and bestowed upon us. No one knows us better, has been with us longer, and has loved
us as consistently as our family members. I often laugh at the irony that there are times when our family
members have been some of the most difficult people in the world for us to love. Today's feast gives us the
courage and generosity to go on doing just that. We take the Holy Family as our example. When you consider the confusion and upset that would have been possible in their lives and realize that their faith in God
and in each other enabled them to move onto both the next joy and challenge in their lives, we are humbled.
So if there is some member of your family who is particularly difficult to deal with or someone who has
been estranged from the family, today is a great day to reach out again in kindness to that person. For it is
not only your love being represented in that gesture but God's own love for them as His children. Finally, let
us pray for so many in this world whose experience of being a family has been little more than suffering or
hardship or violence. While our own families are not perfect, we certainly have known many blessings because of them.

“...as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.”
Colossians 3:13
Forgiveness—one of the hardest things for people to do.
It’s amazing how long we can hold a grudge or be angry
with someone. As we celebrate the feast of the Holy
Family, take this opportunity to give the gift of forgiveness to someone—maybe someone in your family,
maybe a friend, maybe a co-worker or neighbor or, maybe yourself. Pick up the phone or text someone right
now.
Sign up for Online Giving by visiting our parish website
at www.holyr.org. Please call the Rectory at 962-0038 if
you would like to cancel your set of envelopes.
