Pope Francis’ Quotes
“PRAYER TO THE HOLY FAMILY- Jesus,
Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the
splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small
domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience violence,
rejection and division: may all who have been
hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and
healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the
approaching Synod of Bishops make us once
more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our
prayer.”

“Nothing we do to defend the human person, no matter how
small, is ever unfruitful or forgotten. Our actions touch other lives and move other hearts in ways we can never fully
understand in this world. Don’t ever underestimate the
beauty and power of the witness you give in your pro-life
work.”

Pastor’s Message
Happy Holy Family Sunday and Blessed
New Year this week!!! When we think
about the Holy Family we know that it is through Mary that
Jesus, the 2nd Person of the Blessed Trinity takes on human
flesh. In accepting Jesus as his son, Joseph makes Jesus a
son of David. We are about to enter into a new year which
will have a tremendous impact on the Church in Philadelphia
and the world as the World Meeting of Families will take
place in September here in Philadelphia. The family is the
unit that is most vital for the survival of society. In honoring
and respecting the purpose God has for the family, parents
most especially raise and nurture children to grow in
knowledge of the world, to living a life of virtue and a life
that honors, respects, and worships God the Creator of all
things. In the blessing of the fathers at the Baptism of their
child, the parents are reminded that together they will be the
first teachers of their children in the ways of faith, just as
they are the first teachers in all things. The blessing prays
they be the best of teachers. How are the parents and godparents helping to let the light of faith entrusted to them with
their children and godchildren burn brightly? How are each
of us, the baptized, letting the light of Christ shine in our
hearts. The one thing that was a recurring theme in the Old
Testament was God wanting His people to hold the teachings
and commandments close to their hearts and to teach them to
their children. Unfortunately, the people of God often failed
to do this, with the result that children often did not know
about the Lord and learn His ways, which led to bad results.
As we begin a New Year we are reminded of new beginnings, and that God also continually proved His love when
His people strayed by calling them back and forgiving them,
giving them another chance. What do you and I need to
change so that our lips proclaim the goodness of the Lord
and our lives are at service of God’s plans and serving our
brothers and sisters? Thank you for being my Church family!!! I hope you are having a blessed Christmas Season!!!
Know that you, my St. Agnes family, are fondly remembered
daily in my prayers. If you need to contact me, please call
the Rectory or e-mail me at: [email protected]. You
can also follow me on Twitter:
@frjeffstecz. I am here to serve you.
In Christ,
Father Jeff

Tech Track
This year, we shared technology resources
with the goal of supporting you in your
faith journey. Below is a recap of three
favorites:
Try this great app - Bible App by YouVersion . . .
a free Bible for your phone, tablet and computer.
It’s easy to use and offers multiple features including verse of the day; reading plans that can be
chosen by length and categories; videos and more.
The reading plans vary . . . you can cover the
whole Bible, focus on a topic, or read a devotional
from various teachers. You can bookmark and/or
highlight favorite verses and add notes. It has a
wonderful bible in various formats which can be
easily searched by book, chapter and verse. You
can even choose the font and the size. The app is
available for iPhone/iPad, Android, Kindle, etc.
and is also add free. When you use the mobile
app, your notes, bookmarks, highlights, plans, and
more will be automatically synced across all of
your devices. It’s an easy way to bring God’s
word into your daily life!
Pray As You Can - prayasyoucan.com
Select This Sunday’s Programme from the top menu
bar. Provided are many ways to use the Word of
God to pray and to help you reflect on the Gospel
reading. Choose one or two ways that suit you . . .
“pray as you can, not as you can’t.” Choices include: the Gospel paraphrased into contemporary
language, psalm, prayer, commentary, exposition,
reflection, visual meditations (paintings to view or
movies to watch), mirror meditations, mulling
meditations (for exercise, driving or waiting moments), hymns, poems and suggestions for personal prayer or staff prayer. “God’s word lives within
us. By taking some time each day to allow that
Word to echo, we may begin to recognize the
loving voice of God speaking in our lives.”
Try a new radio station . . . Positive, Encouraging K-Love Radio. You can listen at 106.9
FM -WKVP (Philadelphia), or you can listen
online at http://www.klove.com/ From their
“Ministry” drop down menu online, choose
“Encouraging Word” to have a short Bible verse
emailed to you each day. You can also like KLove Radio on Facebook and/or Twitter. You
can also listen on your phone by downloading
their K-Love app.

Are You A Mandated Reporter?
As part of our Catholic commitment to safe environments, the Archdiocese recently updated its policies and training curriculum for mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. These new policies
reflect the Church's commitment to always do
more, as well as new Pennsylvania laws that go
into effect on December 31, 2014. If you have direct contact with children, you may be a mandated
reporter. Kathy Raub is our Safe Environment Coordinator and will be working with our Parish and
School in the coming weeks to educate mandated
reporters about their responsibilities and how to
properly report child abuse to ChildLine, PA's 24hour child abuse reporting hotline. In the meantime, Kathy can be reached at 215 257-2128 x116
with any questions. Information is also available at
www.childyouthprotection.org.
As we continue to do all we can to keep our children safe, also know that the Office for Child and
Youth Protection provides services, resources and
support toward healing for victims and survivors of
child sexual abuse and their families. Victim services can be reached at 1-888-800-8780 or via
email at [email protected]
