A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
When Jesus is presented in the Temple, our Blessed
Mother formally offers him to God’s service without
reservation. It is a service that Simeon prophetically
foretells: a service to God that will turn the old laws and
cultural norms upside down. Are we destined to hold on to
old habits and customs tightly, or like Jesus, are we willing
to serve the Lord and proclaim the Gospel in new and
creative ways?
EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR
ADORATION
Did you know that St. Agnes has Eucharistic
Adoration EVERY MONDAY EVENING at 7:00pm in
Church?
Come and spend an hour with Jesus on Monday
evening during our Holy Hour Eucharistic Adoration
which is led by our Deacons each week.

ͷ΃΀;͑΅͹Ͷ͑΁Ͳ΄΅΀΃
͑
Greeting you with love and blessings from God. How was your week? How was your Christmas? Hopefully you
and your family had a wonderful Christmas, with a lot of joy, happiness, grace and luck from God’s love. May you
continue to carry on the spirit of Christmas throughout the coming New Year of 2015.
During the holidays I, Fr. Heffner, Fr. Vinh, and Fr Hall received a lot of Christmas cards, presents and gifts, etc.
We sincerely thank all of you for your generosity and your love during this holiday season. May God return to you
and your family many rewards and blessings during this coming New Year.
We are so blessed at St. Agnes. Everything was so beautiful for Christmas, from beginning to end. Again, I would
like to thank the Altar Society, and everyone who helped with the beautiful flowers on the altar, and taking care of
ALL of the church decorations. It looked outstanding! We also want to thank the Altar Servers and their parents
for allowing them to serve at Mass. They all looked dignified and professional. We cannot forget about the
readers, the Extraordinary Ministers, and the outstanding Ushers for their services during this time of the year.
Their participation in the celebration makes everyone feel right at home. And again, as always, BRAVO to both
choirs. They sounded so good, and went out of their way to sing not once, not twice, but three times over the
holidays. Thank you to Dr. Louise LaBruyere and Eric McCrary for your hard work in leading the choirs. It made
me so happy to hear our guests and parishioners comment on how wonderful the choirs sound. Of course again,
both choirs always need more voices for their choirs. So, if you want to sing, please join us. Remember good or
bad singing, it’s twice praying.
I would also like to take a moment to thank the Finance Council and the Ushers for their help in distributing the
2015 offering envelopes. If anyone of you are new and have never used envelopes before, you can just pick up
one of the boxes with white cards in it, fill it out and drop it in the collection. Bravo to the Ushers and Finance
Council.
As we approach the New Year, many of us have a habit of making a resolution for the New Year. So, whatever
your resolution, I hope you can achieve it. In the past few years, I always have a little essay for the New Year
Resolution. But this year, I again want to use the same prayer we had last year. I hope you still like it , because I
like it so much:
Prayer for the First Day of the Year
Eternal and Almighty God, who makes all things new, we thank you that today you have allowed us to begin a new
year. Here in your presence we make our resolution for the days to come. We resolve to be faithful and true to
those who love us, and loyal to those who are our friends, so that we may never bring worry to their minds or
distress to their hearts. We resolve to live in forgiveness and in kindness, that, like Jesus, we may go about
always doing good.
We resolve to live in diligence and effort, that we may use the full gifts and the talents that God has given us. We
resolve to live in goodness and purity, that we ourselves may resist temptation, and that we may be a strength to
others who are tempted. We resolve to live in sympathy and in gentleness, that we may bring comfort to the
sorrowing and understanding to those who are confused. We resolve to live in serenity and in self-control, that no
anger or passion may disturb our own peace nor the peace of others. We resolve to show our love for God by
keeping his Commandments and ask Jesus to bless us with his peace and joy for doing this. O God, our Loving
Father, you have given us the grace to make our own resolutions, grant us also the strength to keep them through
the coming year. Amen
As we are still in the spirit of the New Year coming, 2015, I wish all the best to you and your family. Again, on
behalf of the priests and staff of St. Agnes, we wish all of you a very, very Happy New Year! Bonne Anne! Feliz
Ano Nuevo! Sun nien fai lok, Chuc Mung Nam Moi! Be healthy, happy, wise and be kind to one another. God
Bless!
Fr. Bac-Hai

Join St. Agnes’ Music Ministry
Let’s start the new year off with a few more
singing voices. St. Agnes has two choirs! The
adult choir sings at 9:30 a.m. Mass and the S.A.V.E. (St.
Agnes Vocal Ensemble) at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Any interested musicians should contact Louise LaBruyere at 4306371 or Eric McCrary at 723-3622.
REMEMBER: He who sings prays twice.
Come join this exciting and rewarding ministry.
WHAT IS RCIA?
RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
This is a process, established for the universal Church for
individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments
of initiation - Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This is a
spiritual journey and takes place through stages over a
period of time. It is a restoration of the early church from the
first three centuries before the custom of infant baptism.
Who is it for?
1) People who desire to be baptized
2) People baptized in another Christian religion
(i.e.: Lutheran, Baptist, etc.) and desire to
become Catholic
3) A person who has been baptized in the Catholic
faith but is in need of one of the other
Sacraments of Initiation – First Communion or
Confirmation
·
If you fit into any of the above and desire to become
Catholic or receive the graces of the other Sacraments of
Initiation, call our pastor, Fr. Bac-Hai at 833-3366 or our
RCIA Coordinator, Ms. Karen Metternich at (504) 833-2477.
MASS FOR THE SICK
Most Reverend Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond will
celebrate a special liturgy for the sick at 11:00 a.m. on

know, the 11:00 a.m. Mass in the Cathedral is televised and
reaches a great number of our sick and shut-ins in their
homes, residences and hospitals. Parking will be available
in the school yard at 820 Dauphine Street. All Eucharistic
Ministers of the sick and homebound are invited to
attend. Call Family Life at 504-861-6243 for more info.

TAX-FREE IRA OPPORTUNITY MADE
AVAILABLE TO OUR PARISHIONERS

schools, and other Archdiocese of New Orleans

opportunity to make a special gift to our parish, and, at the
same time, lower your taxable income for the year. This
opportunity is effective only through December 31, 2014.
Thank you for considering this opportunity! If you would like
additional information on how to support our parish through
an IRA contribution, please contact Josephine Everly (504596-3031) or Robert Menard (504-596-3043) at the Catholic
