Principal’s Message
As we enter the second half of our school
year, I am very pleased to report that we
continue to insure that learning takes place
for every student every day. Student
achievement will always be our primary
focus as we meet students where they are
and provide flexible and varied opportunities
for success.

Student Council News
Student council is in the process
of organizing several events in the
next few weeks. We will be
holding another dance on Feb.
13. Remember to dress
appropriately and follow the
school dress code. In accordance
with African Heritage month, we
will have an African Heritage daily
quiz during Feb. 17-21. We
encourage all to participate and
winners will receive a prize.
During Feb. 24-28, St. Agnes will
be holding their annual Winter
Carnival. Each day we will have
an event, e.g. Crazy Hair Day on
Monday. On the morning of that
week’s Friday, we will go to the
Oval. Stay tuned for a list of
themes.
Our school is also planning to
have a mascot for our home
games, assemblies and events (ie.
Winter Carnival). If students are
interested, you must write a
summary of why you think you’re
a great candidate for the job and
include two teacher references.
Please submit to Ms. Keddy or
Mrs. Targett.
This month St. Agnes is also
supporting the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society by selling
tickets to a hockey game between
SMU and Acadia University.
Student council encourages
everyone to participate in such a
worthy cause. Hope to see
everyone at the game!
Please inform your class rep. or
executive if you have questions,
concerns or suggestions!
On Wednesday Jan. 29/14 I will have an
opportunity to discuss creative and
innovative ways to increase student
achievement with our new superintendent,
Elwin LeRoux. As always, if anyone has any
thoughts on this topic or any issue that may
impact their child or our school, please do
not hesitate to contact me.
I hope this message finds each of you well.
Brad McGowan
Visitors
Please remember that all visitors to St.
Agnes are required to sign in at the main
office. This procedure is in place for the
safety of our students.
Appropriate Winter Clothing
Please remember that with cold and windy
weather upon us, it is important for all
students to be dressed for the weather.
Grade 9 Trip
This year’s trip, destined for PEI is now in
the planning process—stay tuned for more
details in the next few weeks!
Rear Parking Lot
This is a reminder to parents that the rear
parking lot is only for Special Needs bussing,
staff and emergency vehicles. Parents should
pick up their child in the front parking lot.
The rear parking lot should not be used as a
pick up location. Thanks for your support.

PTA SPRING YARD SALE & MARKET
We are in the planning stages for our
annual event Saturday May 10th 9 am. to
1 pm. so please start gathering up new
and gently used items (toys, electronics,
furniture, pictures, dishes, crockery,
plants, jewellery, handmade craft items,
handmade wooden products, knitted
items, art work, etc.) and set up a table
at our event. This event is a great chance
to sell a bargain, find a bargain, have
fun, recycle, re-use, upgrade, learn,
socialize, be a craftsperson/artisan, and
help our school to help our students. We
will be renting tables out to students for
a $3 fee. This is a great opportunity for
students to set up, display and sell their
items, and earn some money for
themselves while trying out their
marketing, business and entrepreneurial
skills. The students who participated last
year raised some money for themselves
and had lots of fun. The PTA will also be
hosting and running the following tables:
great new and used sports equipment,
delicious baked goods, silent auction, and
beautiful basket raffles. The proceeds
from the PTA table sales will go back to
the PTA to support events and enhance
our school and community. The PTA
would greatly appreciate any donations
for their Sports Table, Bake Table, Silent
Auction, and Basket Raffles. .
For our Silent Auction we ask for your
support by donating any new items you
may have at home that you no longer
need-big or small. If anyone has an
employer who would be willing to donate
a gift card, tickets to an event or
corporate swag that would be wonderful.
Anyone wanting to promote their
company this is a good chance to put a
gift on the table. Items can be dropped
off at St.Agnes or if it is a big item then
please call Rose Fraser at 477-7392.
Thank you for all your support and we
hope this Silent Auction will be a big
success.
