in Christ at Trinity,
Many heartfelt thanks for all your
prayers and support of the Lord's
mission work in the Dominican
Republic! We have had the honor
of sharing Jesus' love with adults,
children, those with spiritual needs,
and those with physical needs. We
had the joy of witnessing dozens of

much more work to be done. Thank
you for being a part of this journey

ADULT FORUM 2015
January 4, 2015
"From Jesus to Christ: The First
Christians" series continues with Part
Three. Following the sack of Jerusalem
and the destruction of the Temple, the
revolt brings new questions about the
nature of both Judaism and Christianity.
The decisions made over the rest of the
first century into the second lead to the
eventual split into two different religions.
The need to write down the teachings of
Jesus started with Paul's letters. Storytelling in both word and song led to the
writing of the four Gospels.
January 11, 2015
"From Jesus to Christ: The First
Christians" concludes with Part Four.
During the second and third centuries,
Christianity takes a foothold in the
Roman Empire. Why did Christianity
succeed when other religions did not?
One of the amazing things during this
time was the diversity of beliefs that
existed in Christianity. This part concludes with the reign of Constantine in
the beginning of the fourth century and
the major impact his decisions had on
Christianity.

WHITE GIFTS
SUNDAY
JAN. 4 & 11
On Sundays, January 4
and 11, 2015, we will be
celebrating White Gifts
Sunday. On these days, as we remember
the Wise Men and the gifts they brought to
the Baby Jesus, we, too, are asking you to
bring gifts for infants and toddlers in our
community. Please bring items such as:
* Diapers of all sizes but small
* Baby Wipes
* Desitin or Balmex diaper rash cream
* Non –medicated saline nasal spray
* Pedialyte
* Small baby toys, layette or handmade
items, etc.
Diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash
creams are especially needed.
On January 4, we are asking everyone to
bring their White Gifts and place them in
the mangers that will be in the lobby or in
the church itself. Our committee is again
requesting that you do not wrap your gifts
to avoid the unnecessary use of paper.
The items collected will be given to children
in our community through the Abington
Health Children’s Clinic. Cash contributions
are also accepted to help the Children’s
Clinic Discretionary Fund. The money is
used to help families of infants obtain
medical care, transportation, and other
needs for their little ones. Checks
should be made payable to Trinity, put
in an envelope marked “White Gifts”,
and placed in the offering plates. In
case you miss the collection on January
4, the mangers will be in the lobby
through January 11. Thanks for sharing
the love of Jesus with the children in our
community.

C OMMEMORATIONS
FOR THE
W EEK
As a means of recognizing the witness of exemplary Christians throughout church history, Evangelical Lutheran
Worship includes many commemorations which may be observed in corporate worship as well as in personal devotions.
Sunday, December 28, 2014-The Holy Innocents, Martyrs-This day commemorates the young children
killed by Herod in Bethlehem in his jealous attempt to murder the baby Jesus, a sobering reminder of the
evil that led Christ to be born for our salvation.
Thursday, January 1, 2015-Name of Jesus-By Jewish law, every baby boy was circumcised and named
on the eighth day of life, so on the eighth day of Christmas the church celebrates this event in Jesus' life.
The keeping of the covenant as well as Jesus' name are signs of God's salvation given to us through him.
Friday, January 2-Johann Konrad Wilhelm Loehe, renewer of the church, died 1872-A nineteenthcentury German Lutheran pastor, Loehe worked to enliven the church with the eucharist at its center, from
which would flow evangelism and social ministry. He sent pastors to North America, Australia, New Guinea,
Brazil, and the Ukraine.
Friday, January 9, 2015-Adrian of Canterbury, teacher, died around 710 (TFF)-African by birth, Adrian
(or Hadrian) worked with Theodore, archbishop of Canterbury, in developing the church in England. He was
director of a school at which church leaders were trained.
