Diocesan Prayer Calendar September-December 2014 Earlier this year the Diocesan Synod supported the formation of a link between Ely Diocese and Kigali Diocese, in Rwanda. Bishop Louis the Bishop of Kigali and his wife Winnie with some others from the diocese will be with us from 11-20 October. They are here to formally launch, with Bishop Stephen, the new link with the Diocese of Kigali in Rwanda. Bishop Louis and Winnie will then be out and about in the diocese spending time with us in prayer and worship and at various events. The programme of the visit is still being finalised. In the meantime, please pray for safe travel arrangements and for visas. It is our hope that by forming this link we as two dioceses become friends. Discovering what it means to be “church” in our very different contexts and to learn from one another. In June 2013 a small group from Ely visited Kigali. We recognised the benefit of spending time with our brothers and sisters, listening to their stories and hearing how God is at work in a country that was torn apart only a few years ago. We were struck by how spiritually alive the Church in Rwanda is today. Humbled to hear stories of how reconciliation and forgiveness is preached and practised; God has bought healing and transformation. Bishop Louis’s visit allows us to hear afresh what God is doing in Rwanda and to develop our friendship with Kigali diocese. Incidentally, a number of parishes have already expressed interest in “twinning” with parishes in Kigali. If you are interested in forming such a link do be in touch. As December comes upon us and we plan for Advent and Christmas, do remember those in the parishes – our musicians, liturgists, choir directors and organists – who have direct responsibility for our celebrations. Pray, that all we plan and all we do, may bring honour and glory to the One who has not abandoned us but who has stepped into our shoes. The One who embodies the message of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.
