FINANCIAL INFORMATION Page Six December 28, 2014 To Build A Church, a Church Alive Pledge Redemption Instructions Over the next five years, we will be collecting on the pledges made to our To Build A Church, A Church Alive Campaign which will enable us to build our church. In order to make the process easier for both you and the parish, we ask that you please utilize the following information when you fulfill your commitment. Pledge Payments Remittance statements are mailed the last week of every month. If you are sending payments on a different schedule than monthly, the remittance statement schedule is the same, but you’ll receive them when you selected — semi-annually, annually, etc. In order to assist Saint Kilian with the pledge payment process over the next five years, please wait for your reminder statement before sending any payments to To Build A Church, A Church Alive. Do not send payments directly to Saint Kilian. Pledges are centrally processed, and the Diocese sends the proceeds to Saint Kilian each quarter over the next five years via our parish’s Diocesan savings & loan account. If you need to make any changes to your pledge, or if there are any errors, please send the changes to: To Build A Church, A Church alive c/o Our Campaign for The Church Alive! PO Box 4 Pittsburgh, PA 15230 If you prefer to make your payments electronically (from a bank account or credit card) please visit the Faith Direct Website www.faithdirect.net where you can create an account or sign into your current account. Once on the main homepage of your account, click “Add an Organization,” then enter the code PA162 for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, not PA191 for Saint Kilian. Next, select Saint Kilian from the drop-down menu in order to have your payments apply to the To Build A Church, A Church Alive Campaign at Saint Kilian. The remaining steps will allow you to set up your payment schedule. Finally, you will need to link your payment to a major credit card or bank account of your choosing. Tax Letters Each year, tax letters will be sent from the Diocese for the preceding year of all pledge payments, note that these are separate from the information sent by Saint Kilian for your Offertory and Parish Share participation. Please direct any detailed tax questions to the Office of Stewardship: (412) 456-3085 or email [email protected]. MUSIC MINISTRY Understanding the psalm today can be a challenge. The patriarchal context of psalm 128 is somewhat countercultural to those of us who live in a modern Western culture. But we must look beneath its patriarchal imagery to its promise of blessedness for all people who live according to the way of God. Living God’s way, means reverencing our parents throughout all the stages of their lives. (first reading). It means bearing compassion and patience toward one another, offering forgiveness to those who have hurt us, and remaining faithful to the word of Christ (second reading). It means discerning the will of God for our lives, no matter the form of its deliverance or the level of self-sacrifice demanded (gospel). As Psalm 128 indicates, choosing to live in such a way will bear fruit not only for ourselves and our immediate family but for all the people of God. (portions reprinted from Living Liturgy Liturgical Press Collegeville, MN) Our Devoto Bell choir will be taking the month of January off while the bells are sent back to the manufacturer for refurbishing. We look forward to their return in February to further enhance the beauty of our liturgies. Our various choirs can be heard at these liturgies coming up: Children’s Choir January 10th @ 5:30 p.m. January 25h @ 10:30 a.m. Adult Choir January 4th January 11th January 18th January 25th @ @ @ @ 10:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. If you would like more information regarding the Bell Choir, Children’s Choir or Adult Choir, please contact David Dreher 724-625-1665 x2113 or email [email protected]. It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” ― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Often times we are caught up in the hustle of the Christmas Season. We all have shopping, cookies, concerts, and parties to attend. The students of Saint Kilian Parish School have shown that there is a lot more to Christmas than presents and ribbons. The first, second, and third graders performed a beautiful Christmas concert that reminded everyone that Jesus is the reason for the season. It was a beautiful performance by all, and wonderful recorder performance by the third graders. The band students performed a beautiful concert a few weeks ago. They prepared many Christmas songs and helped to share their Christmas Cheer! Fourth and Fifth grade students have been playing various Christmas songs on boomwhackers and spreading Christmas Joy through their beautiful voices. Sixth grade students have been using their composition skills to create compositions with various products from around their houses. Seventh grade students have been learning about the beginning of music notation. They are creating their own music notation. The students have to combine one octave of pitches and rhythm ideas to notate “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Eighth grade students have been comparing Christmas traditions shared in their families with those of other students, and other cultures around the world. All students have been learning about George Frederic Handel throughout December. They have enjoyed listening to Water Music, Messiah, and the popular Christmas songs, Joy to the World. The students have also learned about different facts about Handel’s life, the music he wrote, and that he actually went to school to be a lawyer before he became a full time musician and composer.
