Vestry Nominations Open What’s the vestry? One reply to this question is that “the vestry “shall be agents and legal representatives of the Parish in all matters concerning its corporate property and the relations of the parish to its clergy” (Canon 14). This means that the vestry is a group of individuals seeking to discern, with the rector, what the parish is called to do and to have oversight of that work. Our vestry has organized this work under four principle areas: worship, service, community and children’s faith formation. While a vestry has legal and fiscal responsibilities that (and must take them seriously), a vestry is not a board of directors for a business or a not-for-profit. The work of the vestry can be done only as it is grounded in the Spirit, which means the vestry needs a variety of gifts for leading this work. We pray that everyone will be alert to who will make good vestry leaders. Each person must be grounded in faith, be regular in worship attendance, and be a person of prayer. Of course, we are looking for skills and experience that will be helpful for these roles. We seek those who are respected in our church community, who are positive and trustworthy, This year we have four members rotating off the vestry, they are Eleana Boyer and Michael Watts, who’ve both faithfully served as wardens for two years, Ronda Tyers who also served as the registrar, and Suzanne Lawton. Our new members will be elected at the Annual Parish Meeting on January 25th. If you are interested in learning more about serving on the vestry, please speak to any vestry member to hear more about this important leadership role in our parish. The intent of pastoral care at St. Margaret's is to celebrate life's joys, while also sharing one another’s sorrows. How do we carry that out?
