JANUARY 2015
Letter from the Administrator
Hello Everyone!
I am happy to introduce myself
as East Troy Manor’s new
Administrator. I have worked in
long term care for about seven
years now; starting off on the
floor as a caregiver, going into
social services, and now diving
in as an administrator. I have
my Bachelor’s in Social Work
from UW-Whitewater and have
recently gone back to UWMadison to obtain my licensure
in nursing home administration.
I have been in the W.I.S.H.
organization for 9 months,
know residents and families,
and to work closely with
staff. Please feel free to call,
e-mail, or stop by my office to
introduce yourself or with any
questions or concerns.

Reaching Your Potential
January holds a lot to look forward
to – it’s a New Year, and time for
a new start. Coming off a hectic
holiday season of festive parties
and food, many of us find ourselves
its, attempt to abolish bad ones and
tackle projects, while giving yourself
the time to recharge your batteries
and reflect. January is Reaching
Your Potential Month; take time to
frantically trying to tie up loose ends
before the end of the year hits. When
January rolls around and you finally
have time to catch your breath, what
will you do? Try to take on new hab-
relax and work your way into getting
reorganized and prepped for the
year ahead.

Everyone wants to improve their
life, especially in the New Year.
We all face struggles from time to
time that make achieving improvement difficult, even frustrating.
It can feel impossible at times
not knowing where to turn, but
the following steps can help make
a positive impact on our lives:
Exercise to improve your body, mood
and life. Nothing lifts spirits and awak-
ens minds better than a blood-pumping
exercise regimen. It also adds tremendous value to a healthy lifestyle.
When you are fit, you may naturally
have a lot more confidence, which
can carry over into everything you do.
Act on your wisdom and live through
your actions. It is only worth so much
to gain knowledge and understanding. How you act on that wisdom defines you. Others cannot see inside
January is National
Oatmeal Month
More oatmeal is consumed in
January than any other month.
Eating more oatmeal may lower
blood cholesterol and reduce
the risk of heart disease.
Ingredients
•
4 cups skim milk
•
2 cups uncooked oldfashioned oatmeal
•
1/2 cup dark raisins
•
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
•
1 or 2 apples (any kind),
cored, peeled and slivered (easily
done with a vegetable peeler)
•
1/4 cup berries (optional)
•
Cinnamon, to taste
Preparation
Mix first five ingredients in a large
saucepan. Bring to a boil, then
turn heat down to low. Cover and
simmer, stirring often, for about
10 minutes or until oatmeal
reaches desired consistency.
Serve sprinkled with cinnamon
(and extra milk if desired).

your head, yet they can see your

individuals, or the world as a whole.
software program, unfamiliar kitchen
equipment, or a handy application
that could help you to stay organized
and focused.
Try to avoid potential triggers. Many
people have specific things that
trigger their poor moods or episodes. To avoid unnecessary stress
and anxiety, try to avoid the trigger.
Stay out of situations that might
upset you. Try to resist potential
confrontations that might you
angry, disappointed, or frustrated.
Head off procrastination and sluggishness with a healthier diet. Stay
away from foods high in saturated
fat such as hamburgers and french
fries. Fatty foods cause fatigue,
sluggishness, as well as slower
thinking. This makes it tough to
stay focused and get through all of
the tasks on our to-do list for the
New Year.
If you find that you are restless,
channel your energy into something
productive. Boredom is often the
result of needing change. If you
channel your idle or negative energy
into positive channels, you may end
up with some surprising results.
Confront tedium with creativity, and
you may be happy with the results.
Rather than take on a series of
resolutions now, keep them in mind
and plan properly for them. Make
this a month of setting yourself
up rather than sprinting into the
New Year with full intentions and
not enough energy to see them
through. Remember that a year
is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s
not to say that you shouldn’t do
anything in January; just take on
projects that will benefit you at your
own pace. Reach the potential you
deserve for the New Year to come.
If you are not especially comfortable
with technology, make it a point to
explore and learn about one tech
device, gadget, or service every
week. You may be surprised at the
world of functional and accessible
tools available. It could be a new
