2015 PROSPECTUS
March 14-29, 2015
“Earth, Air, Fire, Water” is the theme of the 2015 Exhibition and Art Fair on view from March 14-29, 2015, at
McGroarty Arts Center.
We are seeking works that address environmental concerns, reflect personal experiences in nature, or explore
earth, air, fire or water as artistic elements. Works can be abstract or representational, contemporary or
traditional.
This annual exhibition offers a special opportunity for artists in the Foothill communities and greater Los
Angeles area to exhibit and sell artwork in curated gallery spaces. Artists working in two dimensional (low
relief) media, such as painting, drawing, photography and fiber or small three dimensional works are
encouraged to enter. All submitted artworks must be for sale.
McGroarty will host a concurrent one day Art Fair on Saturday, March 21st from 11am-3 pm. Art Fair vendors
can sell their wares in booths outside McGroarty Arts Center. The Sunland-Tujunga-Shadow Hills-Lake View
Terrace Rotary will provide food for purchase. Artists may submit applications for both the Art Exhibitions and
the Art Fair. Participating in the Art Fair day requires the completion of a separate application and payment of
entry fees. Watch the website for added details.
DEADLINE
January 12, 2015 is the date that all Earth, Air, Fire, Water application materials and fees must be received by
the Center by 5pm.
ELIGIBILITY
The exhibition is open to living Los Angeles area residents at least 18 years of age.
MEDIA & ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
Painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber art, hand-pulled prints, photographs and small 3-D pieces that can be
placed on a 10” wide shelf are acceptable media. Giclées, video, installations and larger sculptural works will
not be considered.
All work must be the original work of the applicant and must not have been shown at McGroarty Arts Center
before. Each artist may enter one to five original works. All submitted artwork must be for sale. The artwork in
its shipping materials must fit through the gallery door and not weigh more than 60 pounds. All works must be
gallery-ready and suitable for hanging. We reserve the right to not hang any artwork for any reason
including works that are not properly framed or of professional quality. If accepted, you will be
responsible for transport of your work to and from McGroarty Arts Center on the dates requested.

JPEGS
All JPEGs should be good quality images of the original work and not exceed 5 Mb. Save JPEGs at 72 dpi and
make sure they are a minimum of 600 pixels in the shortest dimension. Label images with your first and last
name and corresponding JPEG number just as they are listed on your application. Ex: ArtistName1.jpg ;
ArtistName2.jpg. Email JPEGs to [email protected] with the Subject Line: "Earth, Air, Fire,
Water.” Be sure to include an 100 word or less biography of yourself.
EXHIBITION SALES
All work is for sale for the duration of the exhibition. Artists are encouraged to set a fair and reasonable
price. Works marked “NFS” (Not for Sale) will not be shown. A 40% commission will be retained by
McGroarty Arts Center on all sales to support ongoing programs. Your portion of the commission will be paid
via check and mailed to the postal address indicated on your application 15 working days after the close of the
exhibition. Artists who significantly "over" or "under price" their works may be contacted with a request that
they amend their pricing if they would like their work shown.
EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS
All artists will be notified of their status. Accepted artists will be notified by 6pm on February 2, 2015. The
status of the entries will not be discussed over the phone or by email. All curatorial decisions are final.
LOAN AGREEMENT
All selected artists must sign a Loan Agreement. Please return the signed Loan Agreement to McGroarty
Arts Center by February 28,, 2015. Artists without a signed Loan Agreement may be kept from exhibiting at
the discretion of McGroarty Arts Center. You may be asked for a high resolution image of your work for
publication purposes.
EXHIBITION DROP OFF DATES: February 23-28 2015
 Work will be accepted on Monday – Friday from 10am -5pm, February 23-27th. (no exceptions)
 Saturday, February 28th is by appointment only. Please make arrangements at least 7 days prior.

SHIPPING DATES: February 23-27 2015 (no exceptions)
Exhibition Artists who cannot deliver their work in person are responsible for shipping it to and from the
exhibition. It should arrive between 10am and 5 pm by the dates specified. McGroarty Art Center is not
responsible for damage caused in transit. You must include a pre-paid return label or your work will not be
exhibited.
INSTALLATION
Accepted artworks will be installed at McGroarty Arts Center galleries. Works must remain in the gallery for
the full duration of the exhibition. Delivered pieces must be the same artwork that was submitted. No
substitutions. While we will do our utmost to show all accepted pieces, we reserve the right at the curators’ sole
discretion to not hang pieces due to space limitations as well as to withhold works that do not meet quality or
hanging standards.
PICK UP DATES: March 30-April 3, 2015
 Artist must pick up any unsold works between 10am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
 Any works not picked up by 5 pm Friday, April 3rd become the property of McGroarty Arts
Center unless prior arrangements have been made. The Arts Center will re-packaging any unsold
artwork that requires shipping.

CURATOR’S AWARD
A Curator’s Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative
interpretations of the “Earth, Air, Fire, Water” theme.
ENTRY PROCESS — Application, Payment, JPEGS & Biography
There are two key steps: prepare the application & payment to send by mail (or hand deliver) and prepare
JPEGS and a short biography to send by email. Incomplete applications or payments or unlabeled/mislabeled
images will NOT be considered.
STEP ONE: COMPLETE APPLICATIONS & MAKE PAYMENTS
Print out the “Earth, Air, Fire, Water” Art application at http://www.mcgroartyartscenter.org Be sure to
complete and sign the application and make a check or money order payable to "McGroarty Arts Center." The
non-refundable exhibition entry fee is $20. All proceeds help support ongoing programs at McGroarty Arts
Center.
You may use our Donation button on our website to submit your payment via credit card. In the “Company”
field you must put EARTH AIR FIRE WATER APPLICATION PAYMENT.
Artists may apply for both the Exhibition and the Art Fair. The Art Fair applications will be sent out in January
under a separate email and posted on our website.
JPEGs will NOT be considered if a valid payment has not been received.

ABOUT THE CURATORS
DANIELLE EUBANK:
Danielle Eubank is a painter interested in exploring the relationship between abstraction and realism. She is a
recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant 2014-15 and has exhibited widely in the United States and
Europe. In addition to her studio practice, Ms. Eubank is an expedition artist. She sailed aboard the barquentine tall
ship, The Antigua, on an expedition to the High Arctic in Autumn 2014. She was the Expedition Artist on the
Phoenicia, a replica 600 B.C. Phoenician vessel that circumnavigated Africa and was the Expedition Artist on the
Borobudur Ship, a replica of an 8th century Indonesian boat that sailed around the African continent. She has
painted the Henley Royal Regatta since 2011. A short documentary film about her work premiered at the Newport
Beach Film Festival in 2012. Danielle Eubank lives and works in Tujunga.
SANDRA MUELLER: Sandra is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and curator who has been on a lifelong
journey of social concern and creative expression. She spent much of the 1990s working on the cutting edge of
interactive media before returning to make her own visual art and launch the BeARTrageous Creativity
Workshops for Women.. Her colorful abstract paintings and photographs have been shown in Chicago, New
York, San Francisco as well as Korea and China. Her social practice art projects include chairing “Pearls of
Wisdom: End the Violence” and participating as the program chair, and artist and essayist in for the “Half the
Sky: Interventions in Social Practice Art” cultural exchange in Shenyang, China. She is a former president of
the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art, she serves on the national WCA board and is a long-time
community engagement advisor for A Window Between Worlds.
ABOUT McGROARTY ARTS CENTER
McGroarty Arts Center provides access to the arts through in-depth arts instruction and experiences. Affordable
multidisciplinary arts instruction is offered to at-risk youth, children, adults and families, as are performances,
exhibitions, and events that engage the greater public. The Center is a venue for artists to present their work
while preserving the legacy of John Steven McGroarty and his historic home in Tujunga.
