Altitude: Shows the actual altitude and the
total altitude difference in ascent and descent.
Distances: Shows the distances in relation
to the current position: total covered distance, covered distance from last waypoint, distance to target.
Time: Shows the following times: Total time
on tour and time from last waypoint.
Position: Shows the position in the selected
format and the current altitude.
Waypoint: Shows the „Waypoint-list“. You
can find the waypoint via the „GOTO-function“.

The intelligent transmitter in its
high end performance:
• Auto-antenna-switch: A disorder of the
transmit antenna (other electronic devices,
metal) will result in an automatic switching
to the other antenna.
• Old device mode: Elder transceivers have
a continuous signal included that cause a
negative effect to the MARK function. The
DSP PRO recognizes such a device plus it is
indicated with flashing victim indication –
now the rescuer can react in the right way.
• Signal adjustment: A buried DSP PRO
recognizes another device buried nearby –
the signal will be set exactly into the signal
break of the other device to have both signals separated – both devices will be found
easier!
• The SCAN function gives an overview of
all the buried devices within the detectable
range.
• iPROBE support: The DSP PRO can be
deactivated by the electronic probe iPROBE. The receiver automatically indicates the
next strongest signal.
• Frequency measurement: The frequency
of all other beacons can be checked. The
deviation from the standardized frequency
457 kHz is indicated. The shown number is
the deviation in Hz and the arrows indicates
+ (right) or – (left).

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
• Due to a circular receiving range the first
signal is received as early as possible.
• TX600 support: The PIEPS TX600 is a
mini-transmitter for dogs and equipment
that is transmitting out of the standard,
EN300718 and can be received with every
DSP PRO.
• The reliable direction and distance indication leads directly into the vicinity of the
transmitter.
• Inclinometer: The slop´s angle can be
checked reliably with the integrated inclinometer.
• The big range of the 3rd antenna guarantees exact pinpointing.
• Transceivers transmitting at the edge of
the standard EN300718 are not disadvantaged by the DSP PRO.

• The MARK function gives best support in
multiple burials: once a transceiver is located it can be “marked“ and the next signal is
indicated on the display immediately.

PIEPS BACKUP BACKGROUND
The PIEPS BACKUP is a mini-transmitter
(Frequency 457 kHz) that is worn directly
on the body in conjunction with your beacon. The PIEPS BACKUP only transmits
in an emergency.
Therefore PIEPS provides the first 100%
solution in case of a secondary avalanche.
The PIEPS BACKUP detects an emergency
(“no motion“ and “ no transmitting beacon
nearby“): Only then will the PIEPS BACKUP start to transmit (457khz)!

with every standard beacon.

Active search operations are never
influenced.

The PIEPS BACKUP may only be used
in combination with an avalanche
transceiver.
Only if a rescuer wears an active transmitter, the rescuer is perfectly equipped in case
of a secondary avalanche.
Automatic fall back function („Search
to Send“) in beacons and their impact
in case of a secondary avalanche
A well-known problem during companion rescue and regular rescue operations
is that additional transceivers are activated because of the automatic fall back
function “Search to send”.
To avoid this problem the following methods are teached and trained in context
of all international trainings (mountain
guides, flight and mountain rescue):
•
All transceivers on the avalanche
and nearby have to be switched off
or switched in „Standby-mode“.
•
The rescue group organizes itself in
different working areas. Only the
ones who are searching switch their
transceivers into search-mode.
•
As soon as all burials are located,
probed and the rescue is going on,
all transceivers are switched on into
send-mode best possible
coordinated.
Fall back function by time: The transceiver switches after 2, 4 or 8 minutes from
„Search to Send“.
a. The rescuer has to avoid the automatic
fall back actively (during searching and
probing/shoveling).
b. In case of a burial after a secondary
avalanche it takes a certain time till the
transceiver switches from „Search to
send“. Although the not buried rescuers
could start immediately with the search,
they have to wait for the automatic fall
back function.
Fall back function by a motion sensor:
The transceiver switches from „Search to
Send“ after a defined time without moving (e.g. 10 seconds). It could happen
that during the ongoing rescue the transceiver is laid aside and the warning peep
before the switching is not heard.
During the active search the rescuer has
the transceiver in search-mode in his
hand. In case of a secondary avalanche
the transceiver is snatched out of his
hand almost certainly. The transceiver
with the automatic fall back function
starts to transmit away from the rescuer.
So the transceiver will be found and not
the burial.
The rubber strap for the fixation of the
transceiver at the rescuer has to resist 5
kg weight (according the standard). This
is not intended to keep the transceiver at
the rescuer in case of a secondary avalanche.
PIEPS recommends to deactivate the
fall back function „Search to Send“ in
every transceiver and use an emergency transmitter like the PIEPS BACKUP
instead.

1. SCAN-FUNCTION: Press
the SCAN button while in the
SEARCH-mode. The PIEPS DSP
will begin scanning the entire
receiving range. During the
scan, stand still and hold the
device steady. This will give you
an overview of all the buried
devices within the detectable
range, classified according to
three groups:

2. FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT: Press the ENTER button while in

strongest (closest) beacon is measured. The deviation from the standardized frequency 457kHz is indicated. The shown number is the deviation in Hz and the arrows indicates + (right) or – (left).
3. SWITCHING FUNCTION TO TX600 SEARCH: The PIEPS TX600 is
a mini-transmitter for dogs and equipment that is transmitting out of
the standard, EN300718 and can be received with every PIEPS DSP
(Version 8.2). Press the ENTER and SCAN buttons simultaneously
while in the SEARCH-mode. The PIEPS DSP switches into the TX600mode and indicates the direction and distance to the strongest TX600
signal. To activate the search according to the standard EN300718
again, switch the PIEPS DSP to the SEND-mode and then back to the
SEARCH- mode.

DSP PRO und PIEPS DSP (with Software Version 8.2 or greater). In
the standard SEARCH-mode the PIEPS VECTOR, PIEPS DSP PRO
and PIEPS DSP will not detect the PIEPS TX600. A detection of the
PIEPS TX600 without switching to a special mode is only possible in
immediate vicinity (<1 m). Receiving the PIEPS TX600 with all other
beacons according the standard EN300718 is not possible.
