Subject: Release of HP TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS) v4.2.0.42758
HP TippingPoint is pleased to announce release 4.2.0 of the Security Management System.
The HP TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS) delivers enterprise-class security
management capabilities for the portfolio of HP TippingPoint Network Security Products. SMS
4.2 enhances its current support to include:
•
Vulnerability Assessment Import and Profile Tuning:
o SMS 4.2 adds the ability to integrate with VA scanners and import a vulnerability
assessment to provide context and guided Inspection Profile tuning to ensure
your TippingPoint deployment offers the best protection from the known
vulnerabilities in your network.
•
User ID/IP Correlation:
o SMS 4.2 includes a comprehensive re-architecture of our user ID/IP correlation
capabilities. A new Identity Agent available on TMC can be deployed to integrate
with your Windows Server 2008 or 2012 Active Directory deployment to provide
richer context, new reports, enhanced forensics and new dashboard options.
•
Traffic Analysis Reporting:
o By looking at flow statistics provided from the IPS NX-Platform, traffic analysis
reporting and visualization is now available on the SMS through new reports and
new dashboard gadgets.

o The SMS IPS event CEF feed has been updated and now allows export of TCIP/XFF
information and user information (when available).
For a complete list of enhancements and changes, refer to the product Release Notes.
IMPORTANT NOTES
•
For customers using ArcSight to retrieve PCAPs from the SMS or using SSLv2 to call the
SMS Web API, please review the “Issue with TLS/SSL support when calling the SMS web
API” section of the release notes.
•
The re-architecture of the User ID/IP correlation feature replaces the Active Directory
integration made available in previous SMS releases. The new Identity Agent is a required
component to access this functionality. This integration no longer supports Windows
Server 2003.
•
Upgrades are supported from SMS 3.5 or later. However, it is recommended that the SMS
appliance be running SMS 4.1 prior to upgrade. Virtual SMS deployments also support
the SMS 4.2 release. Please review the release notes for more details.
