The HP TippingPoint SMS hardware appliances are being updated. The products being refreshed are
listed in the section below titled “Affected Products.” A direct replacement has been introduced and is
now available. These upgraded offerings are based on HP Generation 9 rack server hardware and
provide significantly improved performance and additional features. See the “Product Migration
Options” below for more details.

Product Migration Options
For new deployments or for customers looking to replace their SMS hardware appliance, HP
TippingPoint recommends the following SKUs. The new generation of SMS hardware appliances offer
higher performance and improved capacity. At the time of this product bulletin, the current SMS
products recommended for migration are:
Physical Appliance:


HP Security Management System H3 Appliance with 25 Device LTU (C1J59A)
HP Security Management System H3 XL Appliance with 500 Device LTU (C1J60A)
These new SMS hardware appliances require SMS 4.2.1 and are factory installed with that base
version.
Virtual Appliance:

HP vSMS for VMware vSphere 1-host SW Lic (JC561A)
Please note, the SMS product offerings that include 225 and 1500 node licensing are not replaced
with a single SKU. SMS products can have their device management capacity expanded with the
appropriate quantity of the following license:

HP SMS additional 20-device System License (JC512A)
