NJWA and Florian Schantz Hold Successful
Fundraiser for The Music Connection
The “Fluteketeers” Gear Up for the
Winter/Spring Session
On December 21, 2014, The Crossroads in Garwood jumped and
jived for kids with special needs. Florian Schantz and his Jazz
Combo kicked off their initiative for the NJ Workshop for the
Arts’ Music Connection program with a special holiday concert.
The successful benefit concert is the first step towards
reestablishing this program, which provides free or low-cost
music lessons for special needs children. Many area businesses
and friends of NJWA generously attended the concert or donated
to the fund, and NJWA and The Music Connection are eternally
grateful to them and to all who have supported this program.
The official flute ensemble of the NJ Workshop for the Arts is
back and kicking off its Winter/Spring session. The Fluteketeers is
an ensemble for flute students who wish to hone their skills
playing in a group. Students will play age- and ability-appropriate
music from the chamber music repertoire while improving their
intonation, coordination, articulation, technique, critical listening
skills and more. All flute students aged 9-14 are welcome to join.
Participants must be able to play the following scales: Bb Major, F
Major, Eb Major, G Major, D Major, and Chromatic. Potential
members may be required to meet with the instructor to determine
placement in the ensemble.
The group meets Saturdays from 2:00 – 3:00 pm starting January
17 and running through mid-June (see the NJWA website for exact
dates). Rehearsals are held at the Music Studio at 150-152 E.
Broad St. Tuition is $300. To register, visit the official Fluteketeers
website at http://tinyurl.com/fluteketeers and click on the
“Registration” tab. Registrations are due by January 31, so don’t
wait – log on today! Please email the director with any questions at
[email protected].
