News from Seton Academy
Fun in the Snow
Snow is lots of fun if
you don’t have to shovel it. You
just have fun and enjoy the snow as
a gift from God. Seton Academy
students spend time outdoors almost every day (unless the temperature is too low). Research tells us
that cold fresh air helps people to
think more clearly. It’s also good
for one’s health!
Catholic Schools and Parents
Catholic school teachers are aware that parents must know
what the school is doing and be supportive of its aims. Parent/
teacher meetings, participation in student projects, and weekly
letters from the teacher let parents see how thoroughly the
spiritual is linked with the secular subjects. Schools that are
faith-filled communities reflect Christ’s kindness, concern and
love. Your gift helps an “adopted” student grow in wisdom
and grace, and brings his/her parents and family closer to
Christ and His Church. Thank you.

The Importance of a Will
If a Will has been in the back of your mind but you keep putting it off, now is the time to take a few minutes and take care
of this important step in life planning. Have you given any
thought to remembering Seton or your parish in your will?
That is one way of making sure that your memory lives on.

News From Seton Catholic
Happy New Year! May 2015 be a year
filled with blessings and good health for
everyone!
The new year is off to a fast start with a variety of activities. Since we were not in school for the feast of our
patron saint, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, we started our day
off the first day back with a special prayer service for her
intercession. The annual Financial Aid Night was January
5th. Campus ministry is sponsoring a ski trip to Titus
Mountain on January 10th.
There will be an early dismissal on January 16th so
that the teachers can work on the Middle States recertification. Did you know Seton Catholic is the only school in
the area to be deemed worthy of this distinction? This outside agency comes in and makes sure we actually are as
good as we say we are!

FRIDAY
ADORATION
During 2014, there
were 10 adorers each
week and another 10
substitutes. There were
also 5 visitors per week.
This means that each

untold blessings for the adorers, their families,
friends, and for our parish.
We thank all those who commit their time to this
most needed ministry.
If anyone would like to sign up, please call Linda
Patnode at 643-9614. It can take as little as 15 minutes and taste eternity here on earth!!

for a beautiful antique conversation piece that can entertain
as well. If you are interested, please call 643-2435.

History Tidbit of the Week: The Baptism of the Lord
The Baptism of the Lord is observed as a distinct feast in the Roman rite, although it was originally one of three Gospel events marked by the feast of the
Epiphany. Long after the visit of the Magi had in the West overshadowed the other
elements commemorated in the Epiphany, Pope Pius XII instituted in 1955 a separate liturgical commemoration of the Baptism.
In fact, the Tridentine Calendar has no feast of the Baptism of the Lord. It was
almost four centuries later that the feast was instituted, under the denomination
"Commemoration of the Baptism of our Lord", for celebration on 13 January as
a major double, using for the Office and the Mass those previously said on the Octave of the Epiphany, which Pius XII abolished; but if the Commemoration of the
Baptism of Our Lord occurred on Sunday, the Office and Mass were to be those of
the Feast of the Holy Family without any commemoration.
In his revision of the calendar five years later, Pope John XXIII kept on 13 January the "Commemoration of the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ", with the rank of a second-class feast. A mere 14
years after the institution of the feast, Pope Paul VI set its date as the first Sunday after 6 January or, if in a particular
country the Epiphany is celebrated on 7 or 8 January, on the following Monday.
Pope John Paul II initiated a custom whereby on this feast the Pope baptizes babies in the Sistine Chapel.
The feast marks the end of the liturgical season of Christmastide. On the following day the season of ordinary
time begins.
