News From Seton Catholic
November will be Vocations Month.
One of the diocesan initiatives for the next
five years is to “create a culture of vocations.” Each one of us is called by God to a
certain mission in life. We each need to
pray to find it, listen, interpret the signs along the way, and
then have the courage to do it. At Seton Catholic, November
will be devoted to prayer on this topic and learning about all
kinds of vocations.
Ms. Karen Donaghue, Assistant Superintendent of Schools
for the diocese, spent two days at Seton Catholic. We had a
wonderful visit and found Karen to be very supportive and
helpful.
Strategic planning is off and running! Our committees are
working hard toward the goal of a plan by May. The delicious
kickoff dinner was the reward for volunteering for this important purpose.
Upcoming events include a shopping trip to Albany, the
start of winter sports, a 7th and 8th grade class mass and the
first Coffee House.

Visitation is Mon-Sat 4-9 p.m. or Sun 10am - 9pm.
Since this Sunday is also the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in
Rome, here is a little history behind
this magnificent structure.
The Papal Archbasilica of St. John
Lateran is the cathedral church of
the Diocese of Rome and the official
ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of
Rome, who is the Pope.
It is the oldest and ranks first
among the four Papal Basilicas or major basilicas of Rome and
the oldest church in the West. It claims the title of ecumenical mother church among Roman Catholics. The current
archpriest is Agostino Vallini, Cardinal Vicar General for the
Diocese of Rome.
Pope Clement XII, in the fifth year of his reign, dedicated
this building to Christ the Savior, in honor of Saints John the
Baptist and Evangelist. This is because the cathedrals of all patriarchs are dedicated to Christ himself. As the cathedral of the
Bishop of Rome, it ranks above all other churches in the Catholic Church, including St. Peter's Basilica. For that reason, unlike
all other Roman Basilicas, it holds the title of Archbasilica.
The archbasilica is located outside of the boundaries
of Vatican City proper, although within the city of Rome. However, it enjoys extraterritorial status as one of the properties of
the Holy See. This is also the case with several other buildings,
following the resolution of the Roman Question with the signing
of the Lateran Treaty.
In the liturgical calendar, November 9 is the Feast of the
Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran, often referred to
as the Dedication of the Basilica of the Holy Saviour. In view of
its role as the mother church of the whole inhabited world, this
feast day is celebrated as a Feast in the present universal calendar of the Catholic Church.
BISHOP’S FUND NEWS
As of this week, the Bishop’s Fund Appeal is at 84.54% of its goal with $1,077,841.28 received in cash and pledges
from 8,231 households. Thank you for your generosity and support for this wonderful venture.
Which proves the old adage, every little bit helps!!
If you have not made a pledge, you may drop it into the weekly collection, drop it in the Parish Office during regular
business hours, or you may mail it to: The Bishop’s Fund Appeal, PO Box 150, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
St. Augustine’s Parish would like to

some members of the parish for their
commendable efforts.
YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
To Mike Lawliss, on his eight years
of faithful service as the Parish Center Coordinator. If a group,
or person, needed to use the Parish Center, or Memorial Hall,
Mike was the ‘go-to’ man. Recently, he stepped down from his
post and we wanted to simply say ‘Thank You’ for sharing your
time and talents with us in the parish.
To Rebecca Watkins, for stepping up to the plate to become
the new Parish Hall Coordinator. A tall task that we all know
Rebecca will face with a smile on her face and drive in her
heart!!
To The Hamilton Funeral Home, for their continued support
of the parish and their yearly gifts of the calendars that have
been a St. Augustine’s tradition!! Neil and the staff have always
maintained a professional relationship with the parish and it is
nice when they can put the sadness of their vocation to the side
and provide sunshine and cheer with their kindheartedness.
The Catholic Daughter’s of the Americas, Court St.
