MARMALADE PROJECT. Once again,
plans are being made to begin work on this
year’s batch of St. Matthew’s marmalade. The
exact timing is not yet known as it depends
upon the availability of the Seville oranges, but
usually work begins around the second week of
January. Volunteers are needed, and all are welcome whether you can
spend an hour, or a day or the whole two weeks that the project is
expected to last. Bring a paring knife, a cutting board and, if you plan
to stay for a communal lunch, a can of minestrone soup and a sandwich. This is a great opportunity to spend some congenial time with
others from St. Matthew’s participating in a popular outreach project.
Out of the Cold Supper -Saturday, January 31st at
Southminster United Church (St. Matthew's last time
this season) - Volunteers are encouraged to help for
2 - 3 hours between 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with hosting and meal clean up. Donations of magazines,
playing cards, warm winter clothing are appreciated.

City, but you can attend at St. Matthew's! We bring all the elements
of the NYC conference to you via webcast. This year’s conference
takes on the pervasive, overwhelming issue of economic inequality.
TI2015 speakers have real-world experience making change happen.
They will provide us with hopeful, practical tools we can use to make
a positive economic impact. This conference features:

Homelessness- mark your calendar to join Outreach on Wednesday February 4th, at 7:00 pm in the Chapel for our 2nd session. On December 10th we
enjoyed a very compelling overview of current research on the causes and
impacts of homelessness and current strategies to get people into housing
with community. In session 2 we will draw together several organizations
involved in combatting this problem, and generate ideas on how our parish
could create long-lasting and meaningful change (= justice) in people’s
lives. More information will be available in the coming weeks .
Benjamin Britten’s Noyes Fludde (Noah’s Flood) directed
by Kirkland Adsett. Seeking children for animal chorus (age
6-13) in this rarely performed children’s opera. This will be a
memorable experience for all involved. Audition dates Saturday, February 7 (9-11a.m or 1 to 3p.m., and performance dates
Friday May 8, 7 p.m. and Saturday May 9, 2015, 2 p.m.)The opera will star
bass-baritone Gary Relyea as Noah and soprano Anna Tamm-Relyea as

the parish. This is a wonderful way to connect with
someone new and to get to know one another. It is an excellent opportunity for those in high school who may want to earn their community/

"The Sacraments: Rites that Mold the Anglican Tradition"
Come join us for a new “Molding the Anglican Tradition” series. It will
be held on three consecutive Tuesday evenings – January 13th, 20th and
27th and focus on the sacraments. The first evening, led by the Rev. Prof.
Kevin Flynn, will be an overview of the sacraments including the historical debates. On the second evening, Canon Pat Johnston will focus
on the sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist. On the third evening,
the Rev. Arran Thorpe will explore the ‘other’ sacraments. We’ll have a
simple supper (soup, bread, cheese) starting at 6:15pm each evening
with the talk starting at 7:00pm (finishing by 8:00pm). There is a sign
up sheet at the back of the church (offers to contribute soup, bread or
cheese for an evening gratefully accepted!). Come to one, two or all
three evenings - they are an excellent opportunity for fellowship and to
learn more about our Anglican tradition.

CONCERTS: On Saturday, January 31, at
7:00 pm, St. Matthew’s will present a family
musical show featuring Camille Saint-Saens’s
playful Carnival of the Animals and a screening of Oscar-winning short film The Red Balloon. Kirkland Adsett will play the music from
Carnival on the organ and members of the church’s Boys’ and Girls’
choirs will read animal poems related to the movements
in the composition. The children will also sing music
from the film Les Choristes, and French café chansons
and music made famous by Édith Piaf. The one-hour
presentation will be a fitting lead-up to St. Matthew’s
presentation of Benjamin Britten’s children’s opera
Noyes Fludde (Noah’s Flood) on May 8 and 9.
