WELCOME TO SHEPHERD OF THE VALLEY!
Thank you for choosing to worship with us today. Our desire is to make
your worship experience a positive one. Check out our information booth, in
the skylight area. Take home a church calendar of events or any of the
other items you may find helpful to you. Please make yourself at home.
This is God’s house and a home to all who worship here.
SATURDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY - January 10th in the library following the
5:00 pm service - "The Great Deceiver": Is Satan a real being, or is he just an
outdated representation of evil? The Bible speaks of him as a rebel angel misleading
people to go against God. Recent surveys suggest a majority of Christians in the
United Sates don't believe that he really exists. In this four session study Rev. Mike
Newman explores what the Bible has to say, as well as individuals who have
experienced The Great Deceiver's guile. Subway sandwiches and snacks will be available.

TODAY IS COOKIE/CARTRIDGE SUNDAY - TURN TRASH INTO CASH!!
It’s not magic, it’s a project of your LWML to raise funds for the 2015 National
Convention (in Des Moines) and do something good for the environment! Please
donate your empty inkjet and/or laser printer cartridges, used cell phones, laptops
(with power cords) and PDA’s. We’ll collect them and turn them in to a company –

place your items in or beside the black box in the office.

to start! Classes start at 6:30 p.m. Need more information…talk with Marilyn

MISSION PRAYER REQUEST Please pray for the African Radio Ministry and for
Rev. John and Kathy Duitsman who oversee this blessed ministry. Many people are being
reached with the Gospel in the various prisons in countries of East Africa where it is
extremely difficult for missionaries to go. Many prisoners are studying to become
evangelists to spread the Gospel to the people of their counties after their release from
prison. Pray that God will use these people to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ
throughout their countries.

Whole Foods, HyVee, Dahls, Fareway, Target, Wal-Mart, Family Christian Store, and
many others. We can order almost anything and have it within a week. Or if there is
something you would use frequently, we may be able to keep it on hand. Just stop by and
ask! For more information or to purchase your Gift cards, see Kim Rasler at the Saturday
evening service and Jodi Parrott, Shelli Burmester, or Angie Spann in the narthex area on
Sunday mornings or anytime during the week in the main office. The youth and leaders of
ACT thank you for your support!!!
KINDERGARTENER’S AND PARENT: Reserve February 1, 8, & 15 for
SPLASH Baptismal workshop. 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in multi-purpose room. These
three sessions will explore the reason we need baptism, what God’s Word says
about baptism and how we as families can live out our baptisms daily. Laurie
Scieszinski will be our class leader.
PLAY THE Y.I. CHALLENGE! Help us win $1,000 for our youth mission trip next
summer! The 2015 Yough Investors Challenge kicks off January 25 for three weeks:
January 25 through February 14. The Y.I. Challenge is a 10 question online quiz on the
basics of good stewardship and finances. The congregation with the highest score (based
upon a combination of correct answers and percentage of participation) will win $1,000
for their youth. Website information will be furnished later.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER Whether God entrusts us with little money or lots of it, we
decide if we are going to be using it selfishly or to do good. Our money can be dedicated
to Jesus and used to minister to the needs of those who are hungry, sick, naked, etc.
Home and foreign missions can be supported. Our money can be used to support the
mission and ministry of our church. The Apostle Paul wrote, “And let us not grow weary
of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household
of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10). When God has our hearts, we will use our money as a means
of doing good.
LUTHERANS FOR LIFE “We can’t stop all evil in this fallen world, but we can fight it in our
own neck of the woods with love. Love never ends. Love can save lives. Love declares that there
is no such thing as an unwanted child.” Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – A
