LTD and Friends of Trees volunteers planted more than 50 new street trees. LTD is entering the construction phase for the West Eugene EmX project. Preparation will ramp up during winter and road construction will begin in spring. This approach will condense road work in drier months and minimize costs. Utility relocation will continue and crews will remove trees where the roadways will be widened. As winter weather allows, crews will begin modernizing hundreds of sidewalk curb ramps along the route. The December 6 event was part of the West Eugene EmX landscape plan that will plant more trees than are removed for road widening. This will increase the number of trees along the West Eugene EmX corridor, offer greater diversity, and give the trees more room to grow in better soil conditions. The event took place near West 6th and 7th Avenues between Chambers and Lincoln Streets in Eugene. Participants included residents from the Jefferson Westside and Whiteaker neighborhoods, City of Eugene employees, LTD board members and staff, and other Friends of Trees supporters. LTD anticipates the West Eugene EmX corridor will open to the public in 2017, extending fast and frequent EmX service from downtown Eugene to west Eugene, and connecting with the EmX service to downtown Springfield and the Gateway area. For more information, visit weemx.ltd.org. We invite you to contact Friends of Trees at 541-632-3683 or go to friendsoftrees.org to join in their other planting events. 2015 ROUTE REVIEW We want YOUR input!
