Yes, that's right. You can take everyone's favorite all-purpose search
engine and turn it into a web-crawling, MP3 ripping demon for you. T he procedure itself isn't as hard as you would think, either.

Where <BANDNAME/SONG> is either the name of the band you're searching for music for OR the name of the song you're
looking for.

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of"+"last modified" +"parent directory"
T he first flag, -inurl restricts the Google queries without htm, html, and php pages, and has "index of" within the title. "Index Of"
is a common flag that distinguishes website repositories; folder views of groupings of files on the internet. In a nutshell the first
part of the query narrows down Google search results to pages you wouldn't ordinarily see, but nonetheless are logged and
tracked by Google as it parses the net for new content.
+description +size +(wma|mp3) "<BANDNAME/SONG>"
In particular, this search will narrow down these repositores to include only sites with wma and mp3 files related to the
BANDNAME or SONG you are searching for.
It should be noted though, that we at Haywire Hacking do not condone the illegal download of music: we assume you own a
copy of the correlating CD or published work of the author, and are entitled to a digital backup copy of the music. That is what
this hack is for.

g2p.org has been around for ages... it is NOT automated... but it applies your search query into the string of google operators.
T he main reason for using Google to find mp3's is that Google is not monitored by feds/authorities and Google will not divulge
your information to anyone either!

@ Chris -- I understand where you're coming from, about it being easier to enter your search query into a URL and simply leave
it at that. Some people like to do that, and we won't discourage that here. But some people would like to know how the stuff
behind the query works, which is more or less what this article is about: learn how the fundamental query works, and hopefully
at some point build upon it.
In a perfect world, we will get someone out there to build on the engines listed above and come up with an engine that can filter
out those dummy sites that try to get you to sign up for their paid services.

@ brad.storch -- We actually plan on doing a spotlight on a number of those websites, Seeqpod is a great media site. We will
also be looking at Grooveshark, Musicovery, and TheSixtyOne. All great finds. And actually, you can get directory access to a
lot of the URLs Seeqpod points to if you just remove the mp3 tag from the URL it sends you to. So, http://<website>.com
/<username>/<mp3>.mp3 in Seepod can be truncated to http://<website>.com/<username>/ in your address bar to get
directory access to all the other MP3s that user has; very rarely are the roots of those directories password protected.

But you're not 'fixing' a program problem, nor are you 'modifying' anything to give access to an 'otherwise unavailable' feature.
You're just showing off some of the little-used aspects of Google's search engine. That's not hacking.

@ Jay -- we feel that tweaking a search function does give you access to features in Google that would otherwise be
unavailable. This isn't specific to only music, either. Visit the infamous Johnny Long at http://johnny.ihackstuff.com/ghdb.php to
get a access to a plethora of search queries that reveal actual vulnerabilities on actual systems.
Personally, I feel that mastery of the Google search function is without a doubt the Swiss-Army Knife of both internet searching
and Hacking/Cracking. Feel free to disagree if you'd like: I encourage debate like this, so long as there isn't any flaming,
defamation of character or personal attacks. This is actually a really good post, and I want to thank you for making it, Jay.
Perhaps we will ask our viewers what they feel "Hacking" really is.

Actually, most of the music Google can find is not in MP3 format, but whole albums bundled together in RAR archives and
shared on sites like RapidShare or MegaUpload.
T o search for these:
