USA CYCLING ATHLETE NOMINATION WORKSHEET 2014 WORLD BMX CHAMPIONSHIPS – CHALLENGE CLASS July 22-27, 2014 – Rotterdam, Netherlands CRITERIA FOR AUTOMATIC NOMINATION TO THE TEAM Each country is allotted sixteen (16) starting positions for each age class and in each gender in both 20” (Class) and 24” (Cruiser) for the 2014 UCI BMX World Challenge. These 16 total available starting positions are in addition to positions reserved for riders who earned a W1-W8 finish from the 2013 UCI BMX World Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand. Per UCI rules, any rider who earned such finish is an automatic qualifier in the 2014 UCI BMX World Challenge. Automatic Criteria for 20” Challenge Class Categories Eligible Participants: USAC International BMX License Holders, All athletes must be U.S. citizens. A riders’ racing age and UCI category will be determined by what their age will be on December 31, 2014. Maximum Start Positions per UCI class: 16 Athletes may receive automatic nominations to the team based on the following prioritized criteria: Automatic Nomination (in order of priority): 1. The top eight (8) placing riders or main event finalists at the 2014 USA Cycling Amateur BMX National Championships. 2. The remaining eight (8) riders who fail to advance to the finals from the semi-finals at the 2014 USA Cycling Amateur BMX National Championships or the remaining riders who failed (less than 8) to advance from the semifinals. 3. If positions remain, then athletes may be selected by the USA Cycling Selection Committee following USA Cycling Principles of Athlete Selection (www.usacycling.org). If a UCI challenge class fails to register 16 riders, all riders entered will be qualified. Each rider will have to start the first heat race (moto) in order to be eligible. Automatic Criteria for 24” Cruiser Class Categories Eligible Participants: USAC International BMX License Holders, All athletes must be U.S. citizens. CRITERIA FOR DISCRETIONARY NOMINATION If a rider fails to qualify in the 16 available start positions at the 2014 USA Cycling National Championship race, or from the 2013 World Championships, riders can fill out a Discretionary Athlete Nomination form from USA Cycling’s homepage. Each athlete will have to fill out the electronic nomination form by logging onto to www.usacycling.org, click on Athlete Programs, then Team Selection, then scroll down and click on “BMX Discretionary Athlete Nomination Form.” The deadline to submit Discretionary form is 5:00 pm Mountain Standard Time on May 23, 2014. The Discretionary Athlete Nomination forms will only be accepted before the deadline, no exceptions. Riders submitting forms will be thoroughly reviewed by the coaching staff and we will only consider prior results from the 2013 BMX World Championships, the 2014 USA Cycling National Championship race, or other high level USA BMX domestic C1 events from August 1, 2013, to May 18, 2014. USA Cycling will not add riders to a class just to fill out the available start spots. The final USA Cycling World Challenge BMX Team roster will be posted to USA Cycling’s website on Monday, June 02, 2014.
