BRITISH EMBASSY, BRASÍLIA B3 (L) DEFENCE SECTION TRANSLATOR Main purpose of job: The role of Defence Section (DS) Translator is to provide a coordination, translation and interpretation service to the British Embassy Brasilia Defence Section. The DS Translator must be bilingual in English and Portuguese, able to exercise absolute discretion, and comfortable with engaging effectively at all levels. The successful candidate will be highly organised and possess the initiative and drive to get things done with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be a member of a small busy team. Therefore, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others are essential qualities. The successful candidate should be prepared to work flexibly, often outside normal hours and occasionally at weekends. Furthermore, the successful candidate should also be prepared to travel, with occasional nights away from home. Requirements: University degree in Translation or International Relations, or any closely related field Previous experience as a translator of English-Portuguese documents Training, preferably experience, as a situational interpreter (in the interpreting disciplines of simultaneous, consecutive and whispering) Absolute personal discretion Highly organised and resourceful Proactive attitude Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work well within a small team Flexibility Advanced level of IT Skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Previous experience working in an Embassy environment or military organisation would be advantageous Previous experience as a translator and/or interpreter would be a distinct advantage Routine: 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday) The successful candidate would normally be expected to work 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. However, the successful candidate will occasionally be required to work during a weekend. Furthermore, the successful candidate should also be prepared to travel, with occasional nights away from home. Salary: R$ 7,015.00 plus benefits.
