This training will provide an overview of the Safe and Together™ model and its application to child welfare interventions. It will include an introductory exploration of concepts and skills associated with successfully intervening with domestic violence perpetrators and partnering with domestic violence survivors around the safety and wellbeing of children. These partners may include batterer intervention specialists, mental health providers/managers who primarily work with trauma survivors or children who have experienced trauma issues, or other providers regularly utilized for domestic violence cases. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 Registration: 7:15 a.m. Workshop: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Heidi Rankin, the National Training Coordinator for David Mandel & Associates, has over 20 years’ experience in the sexual and domestic violence field. She has worked in crisis counseling, program and policy development and advocacy in both the United States and Canada. Heidi’s work has emphasized community collaboration, trauma informed practice, self-care strategies for secondary trauma in professionals and the intersection of child development, domestic violence and trauma. As a member of the Prince Edward Island Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention, Heidi helped develop a child welfare domestic violence screening protocol. Heidi received a Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in domestic violence from University of Colorado at Denver, the only program of its kind in the country. In her current role she delivers Safe and Together to diverse audiences across the country. Continuing Education Credits This workshop may be applied to meet the Colorado Provider Requirements for continuing education and certification.
