Living the joy of the
Gospel:
St Francis of Assisi and
Pope Francis
14-21 June, Fr Paul Rout,
OFM
12-19 July, Fr Paul Rout,
OFM
This retreat will explore and
reflect upon the relevance of the
spiritual tradition that originated
with St Francis for the life of the
church under the leadership of
Pope Francis as it seeks to
respond to the challenges of our
present age. It will use as its
inspiration the profound
spiritual experiences of three
great saints, Francis of Assisi, his
spiritual companion, Clare of
Assisi, and one of Francis’ early
followers, the great spiritual
writer St Bonaventure. Through
relating these to the teaching
and writings of Pope Francis, the
retreat aims to enable us to see
how the insights offered by
these saints can help us to
experience what the Pope calls
“the delightful and comforting
joy of evangelizing”.
Paul Rout OFM is a priest of the

O Comfort my
people:
An IGR is tailored specifically to
provide personal direction that
addresses the concerns of your
own life. In an IGR there are no
group talks or lectures. Instead
you meet the retreat director
privately to talk about your faith
journey. Guidance, often
through selected passages of
scripture or other spiritual
readings, usually is offered to
guide your prayer and reflection.

Swimming in a river
of God’s Grace
13-20 September,
Bishop Brendan Comisky,
SSCC
The two younger fish were
eavesdropping on the adults of
the family and heard them
talking about the great ocean. As
soon as they got their mother
alone next morning they asked
her when she was going to bring
them to see the ocean. “Don’t
be silly,” she told them. "That's
what you have been swimming
in since you were born". One
little fish looked at the other and
marveled, “But I thought it was
just water!" Some of us are like
those little fish, endlessly
searching for a cup of water,
unaware that we are swimming
in a river of God's grace.
Awareness of what God
accomplishes in our lives, not
what we accomplish, is the key
to the kingdom.
