STAFF SPOTLIGHT Meet Betty (Be’ja) Brandon - Custodian Betty has been working with our Y for the last 10 years. She moved to Sumter as a “military brat” and has lived here ever since. “ I really like working at the Y. It is a good atmosphere, and the members and staff help me have a better attitude about life.” You can usually find Be’ja keeping our Y fresh and clean. “Ms. Betty is always such a big help to me, whenever I need any assistance,” said Denise Lewis, office manager. When she is not working at the Y, Be’ja enjoys playing pool and watching movies. She also has a deep passion for animals. She previously had seven dogs, but now has a modest brood of four dogs and one cat. “I love animals!” Be’ja has two children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild who was recently born on her birthday! Joining the Y was one of the first things Ford did when he moved to Sumter four years ago. Ford enjoys lifting weights and using the cardio equipment in the fitness center. His physical fitness efforts definitely reflect his healthy lifestyle, because this 70 year old is in better physical shape than most people half his age. Ford also enjoys walking and running at the park when the weather is nice. Ford appreciates the friends and acquaintances he has made at the Y. I” gain energy from the conversations and friendships I have developed.” Ford has five children and is retired from New York City Civil Service. When Ford is not working out, he enjoys shopping. 4
