NEW AQUATICS DIRECTOR
Meet Igor Iovanovich
Igor was born in Brazil and has been involved with Aquatics since before he
could walk! He came to the U.S. with a college swimming scholarship. Igor
continued his swimming career as a swim coach for Club Wolverine, and has
served as a lifeguard, swim instructor, deck supervisor, assistant aquatics
director and aquatics director. Igor joins us from a YMCA in MetroPhiladelphia. When Igor isn't near the pool, he's busy being a husband, and
father to a two-and-a-half year-old princess. He looks forward to joining
the Sumter YMCA family and making the aquatics program even better with
help from the staff and community.

LABOR OF LOVE
We are truly thankful for our green
thumb volunteers: Betsy Humphries,
Mary Jean White and Ruth Weinberg.
They consistently donate their time to
keep our landscape looking fresh and
healthy. Recently, they fertilized and
refurbished our flower beds, and planted
fall annuals at the front entrance. Their
love of gardening and of the YMCA is a
true blessing to us all. Thank you for of
your hard work and dedication!

6 weeks - 3 years.
“ I love working with children and watching them discover new things.
Teaching them new things is exciting.” Amy loves helping our members
by making sure their children are well cared for so they can enjoy
working out, and know that their children are safe. She has especially
enjoyed caring for and watching Emma and Noah Corrigan grow up at
the Y. (Their mother, Missy, is our associate executive director.)

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Meet Gary Norfleet. Originally from Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, Gary spent 17 years in the Marine Corps before
landing in Sumter19 years ago. Gary is working to maintain a
healthy life style after being almost 280 pounds. “I’ve had a
low self-esteem… I was losing myself to life and everyday
stresses. I needed a kick in the rear, a motivational tool.” He
joined the Y 6 years ago and continues his weight training with
a little cardio.
“I am passionate and dedicated to my workout to a point I
might seem a little overly zealous. But believe me, I will stop
and say “Hello and how are you.”
What he enjoys most about the Y is the friends he has made
and the people he encounters here each visit. “I’m blessed
with more friends than I’ve ever had.”
Gary has three children: Reginald, Nicole, Mike and Danille.
In his free time, Gary enjoys collectibles and antiques. His favorite quote comes from the movie
It’s A Wonderful Life: “Remember George, no man is a failure who has friends.”
