Tuesday, January 13, 2015 Rockville News continued from page 14 the second Tuesday of the month but instead all are asked to participate in the Mass at 7pm and mark their calendars and plan to attend the February 10 session. Rockville Area Sportsman’s Club The regular January meeting of the RAS Club was held on January 5th at the Granite Edge Café, Main St., Rockville with president Jim Massmann calling it to order. Secretary/Treasurer Jan Mick and CEO Mike Mick reporting. Old business included President Jim Massmann going to the bank to sign the card for the new account. Jan Mick had the newsletter ready except to confirm the annual dinner venue. It was decided to again go to the Granite Edge Café, the space is adequate. It’ll be closed to the public by 7pm and the club will proceed with their dinner. Under New business, Steve Krueger from the St. Cloud Park & Rec appeared to talk about their fishing derby, February 28th. This will take the place of the SOE/BSA Derby because the Scouts are getting out of it. They will be partnering with Mark Tipler of Tips Outdoors. They run an educational derby to get kids hooked on fishing. They’re involved with firearms safety, wild turkey and bow hunting. Jim Willard moved the RASC to do the concessions again and do a $250.00 sponsorship. Cheetoz 2nd it, it passed. Bugs & Buddy (Formerly Venture III) turned in kitchen remodeling plans for approval. Everyone is invited to stop in and say hi to the new owners. Jan Mick presented the 2015 proposed budget, which was approved. Midwest Outdoors Unlimited will be having their annual banquet on January 15. Jim Willard moved to do the same as last year by giving a $250 sponsorship, 2nd by Brian Mick and passed. Jim also suggested that the club reward some of the people for their hard work on getting the bar building sold. Those involved denied any such rewards before it could be seconded, with thanks for the nice thought. Elections are to be held at the annual dinner. CEO Mike Mick, President Jim Massmann, 1st Vice Mike Schmidbauer and trustees LeRoy Weber and Gary Grams. All these positions are open for elections. Jim, Mike and Gary have agreed to run again. Nominations are open. So far they include: Brian Mick for 1st Vice and Kim Hubred for Trustee. Nominations remain open through the annual dinner before elections. Jan brought in four Happy New Year goodie boxes to be drawn for. They went to: Jeff W., Cheetoz, Jim M. and Ed K. The mail consisted of the usual bank statements, GCB thank you card, Royal Premium cancellation confirmation, MOE Banquet and Century Link refund. The membership drawing pick was Bob Eder for $20. He was not present which makes the next one worth $25 in March as the club does not do a drawing at their annual dinner. Christmas Party The Rockville Fire and Relief Association is having it’s annual Christmas party on Saturday evening January 17th at the Rockville Parish Center. The evening begins with a social hour at 6pm followed by dinner at 7pm. All members of the Fire and Rescue, past and present, plus guests have been invited for this annual affair. Over 60 Party The monthly Over 60 Party at the Rockville Parish Center begins on January 19th with a noon dinner. All those over 60 are invited. Come and enjoy a hearty meal and some games of 500. This is co-sponsored by MIC Parish and the Parish Women’s Group with Jean Walz and her family in charge. ***** Birthday thoughts and memories of (Hermie), Albin J. Hermanutz, born on January 15, 1903 in Cold Spring. The oldest of six sons, born to the Brewmeister at the Brewery. When his tavern burned down in Cold Spring in 1937, he bought the one in Rockville that remained in the family until 1994. Happy Birthday to Gena, our youngest daughter, born on her grandpa Hermie’s birthday in 1967. Although he had already died, she’s always been reminded Cold Spring Record of that claim to fame. Have a good one Gena. Birthday wishes to a nephew, Michael Olson born on January 15th, 1958. He lives in the sunshine state of Florida. Birthday wishes to Rose Beckrich, born on January 18th, 1914. She lived in Rockville for years and now resides in the John Paul Apartments. Happy birthday Rose. Birthday thoughts and memo- ries of Irene Stein, my next door neighbor as I grew up in Cold Spring. Although she’s gone to her great reward, her spirit lives on in our memories. Hope all the Stein kids get together for a party. ***** What do you think about these windchills that cause frostbite in less than 5 minutes?
