Seminarian & Vocation Collection - Second Collection
A second collection, approved for the Greensburg Chapter
of the Knights of Columbus councils, will be taken at all
Masses this weekend for the Diocesan Seminarians and the
Greensburg Chapter Bishop’s Project. Your donation benefits
our local seminarians and the Bishop’s programs for high school
and college age youth who are discerning vocations to the
priesthood. Your support will help Fr. Hertzog Council continue
to offer moral and financial support to our future priests throughout their seminary formation. Checks can be made to

to all who participated in making this fundraiser a success.
The total profit from the Polish Platter is $15,451.20. A
special thank you and job well done to the committee, volunteers and the many people that supported this annual fundraiser
for St. Mary Parish.
Bus will depart St. Mary at 6:00 AM on Thursday,
January 22. Trip includes breakfast, the march,
National Shrine, and dinner. Return time: 11:30
PM. Adult: $36; middle school: $30. Make check
payable to "Knights of Columbus 1381." Fr. Daniel
will say a special Mass at 5:15 AM in St. Mary Church prior to

St. Joseph St. Vincent de Paul Society
2014 Annual Report
Many thanks to all the volunteers, associates and contributors for their help and donations. From our contributors, we
received $10,373 in donations. Therefore, we helped 266
people with rent assistance, furniture, appliances, utilities,
clothing and counseling. Total disbursed - $11,891.
As partners with the Westmoreland County Food Bank
(WCFB), we distributed over 50,000 pounds of food to 72
households in the past year. Our monthly WCFB has seen
the most volunteers—ever! Thank you! Over 1,500
pounds of food was donated by partner parish members to
the St. Joseph Food Pantry, located in the Parish Office Basement. Food drives were spearheaded by St. Joseph Christian
Mothers, MQA pupils and members of the Knights of Columbus Council #1381. The church office gave out 96 boxes of
food and 98 food vouchers from our food pantry. Total hours
of service from our members and volunteers totaled over
3,200 hours. A special thank you to Sr. Carol, our spiritual
advisor, Fr. John, Fr. Daniel and Debbie Hilliard for their support and assistance.
Give blood, donate winter clothing, or give non-perishable food
supplies to local charities.

unique presentation would not have been possible.
AED Training
St. Mary Church has received a partial grant from the Ira &
Francis Wood Trust to purchase an AED (Automated External
Defibrillator). An AED is a portable electronic device that helps
to administer real CPR. We are asking for volunteers, who attend both Masses, to attend a training session. No medical or
CPR experience is necessary. Please write your name and time
you are able to attend on the sign-up sheet in the back of the
church or call Stephanie at 724-337-6412, ext. 12.
St. Joseph Christian Mothers
This month’s Communion Mass will be held on Sunday, January 25. All are asked to gather at 9:00 AM for rosary prior to
9:30 AM Mass.
Attention St. Joseph Altar Servers
A class for all altar servers will be held on either
Monday, January 26, or Thursday, January 29,
at 4:30 PM. Please contact the parish office as
to which date is best. As always, anyone wishing to serve the Lord by assisting the celebrant is welcome to
attend this class.
Young Adult Ministry
The regional young adult group will gather for their next faithsharing session on Sunday, January 18, at 7:00 PM in the
Freude Room at St. Margaret Mary Church. Young adults ages
18-35 are welcome to join us! Come and rekindle old friendships or start new ones.
St. Joseph St. Vincent de Paul Society
The next meeting of the St. Joseph St. Vincent de Paul Society will be held on Tuesday, January 20, at 2:00 PM, in the Parish Office Conference Room. Members are encouraged to attend. New members are always welcome.
Dead Theologians Society
All students in grades 9-12 are invited to a gathering on Sunday, January 25, at 5:00 PM in St. Mary Religion Center. No
R.S.V.P. required! Come every month or when you are able.
Lenten Pierogi Sale
St. Mary Christian Mothers are in the planning stages of making pierogi for Lent. Preparation of the pierogies will begin on
Saturday, January 31. Volunteers of all skill levels are needed.

High School Youth Conference
Plans are underway for the annual 3-day conference for high
school students at Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio,
June 19-21, 2015.
This is the 12th year we will attend the conference. Please
encourage your sons and daughters to attend. It is not only a
great Catholic conference, but it also gives students a taste of
dormitory life. An added bonus: THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME!
The conference is open to all those attending grades 9-12 in
September, 2015, or graduating in June, 2015. Cost is $185 per
person, although cost is greatly defrayed each year by fundraising. Check out the conferences at franciscanyouth.com or call

Homemade Wedding Soup Sale
Youth are selling quarts of homemade wedding
soup this month. Soup will be frozen, to be used
when you need it, and ready for pickup on February
8. This would be a great gift for a homebound person. Orders can be placed in the collection basket or by mail or
phone to Debby at the Religion Center. Please use the order

Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest
 The theme is “The Importance of Religious Freedom”.
 Open to all Catholic students in public, private or parochial
schools in grades 8-12.
 Must be typed and be between 500 and 750 words in
length.
 Student’s name should only appear on official contest entry form, which can be obtained at the parish offices, and
be stapled to the essay.
 All contestants are recognized for participation. Winners in
each age group will receive a cash award and advance to
international competition.
 Entries must be received or postmarked by January

World Meeting of Families Pilgrimage
Pope Francis has formally announced his intention to attend the
World Meeting of Families - Philadelphia 2015. Families from across the
Diocese of Greensburg are invited to
journey to the 2015 World Meeting of Families.
The option that is currently being offered is a weekend pilgrimage that includes only Papal events from September 25-28.
