(4) St. Joseph St. Vincent de Paul Society 2014 Annual Report Many thanks to all the volunteers, associates and contributors for their help and donations. From our contributors, we received $10,373 in donations. Therefore, we helped 266 people with rent assistance, furniture, appliances, utilities, clothing and counseling. Total disbursed - $11,891. As partners with the Westmoreland County Food Bank (WCFB), we distributed over 50,000 pounds of food to 72 households in the past year. Our monthly WCFB has seen the most volunteers—ever! Thank you! Over 1,500 pounds of food was donated by partner parish members to the St. Joseph Food Pantry, located in the Parish Office Basement. Food drives were spearheaded by St. Joseph Christian Mothers, MQA pupils and members of the Knights of Columbus Council #1381. The church office gave out 96 boxes of food and 98 food vouchers from our food pantry. Total hours of service from our members and volunteers totaled over 3,200 hours. A special thank you to Sr. Carol, our spiritual advisor, Fr. John, Fr. Daniel and Debbie Hilliard for their support and assistance. AED Training St. Mary Church has received a partial grant from the Ira & Francis Wood Trust to purchase an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). An AED is a portable electronic device that helps to administer real CPR. We are asking for volunteers, who attend both Masses, to attend a training session. Come every month or when you are able. Lenten Pierogi Sale St. Mary Christian Mothers are in the planning stages of making pierogi for Lent. Preparation of the pierogies will begin on Saturday, January 31. Volunteers of all skill levels are needed. Call the parish office for more details. High School Youth Conference Plans are underway for the annual 3-day conference for high school students at Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio, June 19-21, 2015. This is the 12th year we will attend the conference. Please encourage your sons and daughters to attend. It is not only a great Catholic conference, but it also gives students a taste of dormitory life. An added bonus: THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME! The conference is open to all those attending grades 9-12 in September, 2015, or graduating in June, 2015. Cost is $185 per person, although cost is greatly defrayed each year by fundraising. Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest The theme is “The Importance of Religious Freedom”. Open to all Catholic students in public, private or parochial schools in grades 8-12. World Meeting of Families Pilgrimage Pope Francis has formally announced his intention to attend the World Meeting of Families - Philadelphia 2015. Families from across the Diocese of Greensburg are invited to journey to the 2015 World Meeting of Families.
