PASTOR’S COLUMN... As I have tried to say in many of my homilies, I do not have a dog in many of these hunts, except to be a Faithful Priest of Jesus Christ, and Faithful Priest-son to our Blessed Mother who is largely responsible for my call. And in this case, I pray all may be healed. As we approach the Anniversary of the Roe Vs. Wade decision, the question is often asked: did the Lord or even the Apostles ever speak about Contraception or Abortion. Where does it say it in Sacred Scripture – knowing full well it is not in Sacred Scripture – at least not directly. But our Sacred Tradition, which is equal to Sacred Scripture, gives us another source of Catholic Teaching. From it, we get a document called the Didache. The document is labelled, ‘The Didache: the Lord's teaching by the Twelve Apostles’, and the very first sentences from this document say, ‘There are two Ways, one of Life and one of Death, and there is a great difference between the two Ways.’ The Document called , ‘The Didache: the Lord's teaching by the Twelve Apostles’, chapter 2 verse 2, states ‘thou shalt not procure abortion, nor commit infanticide.’ St. Athenagoris – a Father of the Church, in A.D. 177, stated, a person ‘who induce abortions are murderers, and will have to give account of it to God? For the same person would not regard the fetus in the womb as a living thing and therefore an object of God's care, and at the same time slay it, once it had come to life.’ Again, I do not seek indictment; I seek to heal those in need of healing. So please, if you have struggled with these matters, please do use the Sacrament of Reconciliation. And if you have had an abortion, there are many places to go for healing. Abortion hurts regardless of what age you are. To learn more about healing after abortion, please call (314) 792-7565 or email [email protected] or [email protected]. Trustworthy caring persons will answer your call. [They] make every effort to ensure that you will be comfortable with those serving you. You may also contact [their] Spiritual Support Coordinators directly. For Project Rachel, contact Marisol Pfaff during office hours at [email protected] or 314-792-7451. For Project Joseph, call or email Chuck Raymond at 314-974-6787 or [email protected]. May God heal all who have need! Let Us Be Careful Out There! Each year in January our youth group prepares for the LONG bus ride to Washington DC to stand up for the unborn who can't fight for themselves. I asked a few of the teens "WHY DO YOU MARCH?" and these are some of the things they said… “LIFE IS PRECIOUS!...I WANT TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT! ...I BELIEVE IN THIS CAUSE AND WHEN I MARCH AND SEE 400,000 PEOPLE BY MY SIDE I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE… I WANT TO RAISE AWARENESS...EVERY LIFE MATTERS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL AND EVERY LIFE DESERVES A CHANCE!” Many of you I'm sure would like to march for life but don't have the time, energy or stamina for the long trip BUT if you would like to help us to send these teens that ARE willing to brave the elements and have the stamina to march to the Supreme Court Building on Jan 22, we could use your donation! If you are able and willing to donate contact Judy Krenn 314-761-6570 or put your contribution in an envelope marked PROLIFE FOR YOUTH GROUP in the collection basket. THANK YOU!!! WILLS AND ESTATES Please consider Our Lady of the Rosary Parish when planning your Will or Estate. Thank you! A Mass For Healing will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Church, Chambers Road and N. Elizabeth, Ferguson, MO. 63135 on Wednesday, January 28th at 7:00PM. During the celebration, Fr. Rosy and a number of other prayer stations will pray over everyone who seeks prayer for healing. While on earth, Jesus taught, healed and delivered; Jesus commissioned all the baptized to do the same. This practice of “laying on of hands” has been used throughout the history of the church. Please come with your needs, to pray for someone else, or as intercessor for those who are being prayed with. TV MASS: NEW TIME ON WRBU (ION) Ch. 46 Heart of the Nation’s TV Mass for the homebound will move to 5:30 am on WRBU, channel 46. When you or someone you love cannot get to Mass, the TV Mass offers spiritual comfort and inspiration. The Mass will continue to air at 9:00 am on KTVI, Channel 2.2. Video of the TV Mass is also available online at www.HeartoftheNation.org T he Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25, 2015 will soon be upon us. Each year during this time, as Christians deeply committed to Christian unity, we pray in a special way with Jesus who prayed “that they may be one” (John 17:22). On Sunday evening, January 25 at 7 pm, we will be hosting our ecumenical Prayer for Christian unity. This ecumenical prayer will take place at St. Justin Martyr Parish, 11910 Eddie & Park Road, Sunset Hills. Fr. Leobardo Almazan, OP, Prior of St. Dominic Priory will be our preacher. The theme for this year’s observance is, Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink” (John 4:7). Just as Jesus himself is crossing cultural, social, political and religious boundaries, we are called by Christ to work toward unity. This scripture invites us to reflect on how we may be instruments of God’s grace for those who seem different or disconnected to us. We are called to be vessels of hope, sharing His gift of living water. We hope you will be able to join us. Please respond by calling or emailing Ramona Neumann in our office at 314-792-7162 or [email protected] B lood Drive at Holy Name of Jesus Please join Holy Name of Jesus and MVRBC in saving lives. The following story should be very encouraging to residents of Spanish Lake: by Jasmine Huda / News 4 and Dan Greenwald / KMOV.com The new owners of the Spanish Cove Town Homes said they used a simple strategy to reduce crime at the complex. Police said they used to receive around 60 calls a month from the complex, which was previously known as the Countryside Apartments. Now, police said they only receive around 5 calls per month. “Everything from murders to robberies to burglaries, auto thefts. I mean, you name it,” said Lt. Col. Troy Doyle with St. Louis County Police. Some residents said they didn’t feel safe. “I know the first summer we probably called the police about three to four times because we heard gun shots, and would just keep my kids upstairs in my room,” said resident Alecia Ware. New owners of the complex decided they would clean things up. “This place was trashed,” said Travis Steffens with Spanish Cove Townhomes. The new owners began making changes such as tagging illegally parked cars, putting in security cameras, kicking out bad tenants, and making renovations. A security guard and gate will soon be added at the property’s entrance. “The very first thing I that I had everybody do was come in and we bought 40 rakes, hand rakes. Instead of hiring a big company to come in and rake, all of staff of the property hand raked all 40 acres,” Steffens said. Ware said she feels safer. “It does make a difference because it’s more appealing. Make people really want to stop by,” Ware said. The above story aired on KMOV on January 9. Maybe some of you saw it. It’s good to know that something positive is happening in our community! Pass it on! Better yet, go by and visit the Main Office (like I did), and let them know you care about their efforts. Thanks! Patti Kitchin, Bulletin Editor DORSEY TREE SERVICE, INC.
