PRE-JORDAN
The Baptismal-Parent-Preparation program instructs parents
that they are the “first teachers of their children.” To help parents fulfill their obligations a baptismal preparation evening is
provided on the
third Thursday of each month. Preregistration is required. Parents must attend this program
prior to the baptism of their child, or even before the baby
is born. Godparents are welcome to attend. For more information, or to schedule, please call St. Joseph Rectory at 215-6460494 or email. Baptisms in Spanish are by appointment.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Baptism for children is celebrated on the
second Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE – Parishioners who are
planning wedding dates must make an appointment to set a
wedding date six months prior to that wedding date and arrange
for Marriage Preparation Class at
www.philamarriageprep.com or call 610-873-2017.
GODPARENTS/SPONSORS
The role of baptismal sponsor is primarily a spiritual role to
help the newly baptized lead a Christian life. Therefore, a
sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, in good standing
(married validly), at least 16 years of age, and have received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation
and Eucharist). A baptized person who belongs to a non
Catholic Church may be admitted as a witness to Baptism together with a Catholic sponsor. The choice of Godparents/
Sponsor should be made primarily on their spiritual basis.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK
In case of serious illness, please contact the Pastor at the
Rectory. Eucharistic Ministers make Communion calls on a
regular monthly basis to the homebound.

Fourth Communiqué for Pastoral Planning
Area #420
The PPA#420 Committee met recently to
further its ongoing discussion regarding the
Pastoral Planning for our area. This was our fourth
meeting and we continued our discussion
regarding possible merger scenarios. Recall that
the Archdiocese asked our PPA to provide input
on 6 parishes possibly merging into 4 parishes.
While our committee seeks to respond to this
request, we also plan to take the opportunity to
provide input on other scenarios as well.
The discussion of merger scenarios was lively,
passionate and filled with the recognition that this
is a difficult process to determine what would
make sense for our geographical area, while still
trying to be true to our parishes. We consider
demographic information and trends, information
about each of the parishes, and we try to interject
what we also know to be true that may not be
apparent in data only. It is a challenging effort to
remain based in rationale decision making ,
knowing that any change will be difficult for all
parishioners, especially those who would be
involved in a merger scenario. But we are
committed to doing our best to respond to the
request made of us.
We have begun to narrow the potential
scenarios, considering what alternatives are viable
and have some reasonableness based on several
factors including, but not limited to, geography,
parish population, sacramental trends, lay
participation, mass attendance, financial health of
the parish, and relationship to other parishes and
institutions, as well as the physical plant (e.g. age
of buildings, state of repair, size, etc.) for each
parish.
In the case of merger scenarios where two
existing parishes would merge to form a single
parish, one site would continue as the “Parish” site
and the other would continue as a “Worship” site,
where masses and special celebrations or Feast
days could occur. The period of time to have both
a Parish and a Worship site is determined by many
Page 4
factors, but would be managed by the Pastor. The
Pastor would likely seek input from the
parishioners, as well as guidance on canonical issues
from the Archdiocese.
Our goal is to draft a recommendation in the next
few weeks and submit a final recommendation by
mid-February. The final recommendation will
include a response to the request for a 6 to 4 merger
scenario, as well as recommendation for other
scenarios the PPA committee believes should be
considered and would be in the best interest of the
Church in our geographical area.
As always, if you would like additional information
regarding the Pastoral Planning process, we invite
you to visit the Archdiocese website as http://
archphila.org/conversion/conversion indes.php.

January 2015: The Meaning of Human Sexuality
The tangible, earthly, corporal world is more than inert
matter or modeling clay for the human will. Creation is
sacred It has sacramental meaning. It reflects God’s
glory. That includes our bodies. Our sexuality has the
power to procreate, and shares in the dignity of being
created in the image of God. We need to live
accordingly.
