register in the parish to be recognized as a member. We cannot
issue certificates of eligibility if a person is not properly
registered in the Parish. .
PRE-JORDAN
The Baptismal-Parent-Preparation program instructs parents
that they are the “first teachers of their children.” To help parents fulfill their obligations a baptismal preparation evening is
provided on the
third Thursday of each month. Preregistration is required. Parents must attend this program
prior to the baptism of their child, or even before the baby
is born. Godparents are welcome to attend. For more information, or to schedule, please call St. Joseph Rectory at 215-6460494 or email. Baptisms in Spanish are by appointment.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Baptism for children is celebrated on the
second Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE – Parishioners who are
planning wedding dates must make an appointment to set a
wedding date six months prior to that wedding date and arrange
for Marriage Preparation Class at
www.philamarriageprep.com or call 610-873-2017.
GODPARENTS/SPONSORS
The role of baptismal sponsor is primarily a spiritual role to
help the newly baptized lead a Christian life. Therefore, a
sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, in good standing
(married validly), at least 16 years of age, and have received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation
and Eucharist). A baptized person who belongs to a non
Catholic Church may be admitted as a witness to Baptism together with a Catholic sponsor. The choice of Godparents/
Sponsor should be made primarily on their spiritual basis.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK
In case of serious illness, please contact the Pastor at the
Rectory. Eucharistic Ministers make Communion calls on a
regular monthly basis to the homebound.

GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are
among his earliest writings, and are driven by his
belief and the belief of the entire early Christian
community that the return of Christ was imminent.
Therefore, to devote time or attention to anything
else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit.
Today we may wonder, when we hear these
readings about the coming end-times, if we should
take them to heart. What should we do when we
hear that the day of the Lord will come upon us
“like a thief at night”? (1 Thessalonians 5:2) Does
this mean we are to stop our long-range goalsetting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners,
or stop putting money in the college education
fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that we
need to change our lives, living like children of the
light and illuminating the world around us with the
light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the
details of our daily living become unimportant, we
will be ready to find our peace and security in Christ
Jesus.

The Theme for November 2104 is : CREATED FOR JOY
We are more than an accident of evolution. We are greater than
the sum of our biology. God exists. He is good. He loves
Us. He made us in His image to share in His joy. He takes an
active hand in our lives. He sent His only Son to restore our
dignity and lead us home to Him.

Important Information for the
Pastoral Planning- FAQ
Can I offer input on the parish
planning in my area?
Yes. Often the Area Pastoral Planning
Committee, which is working on a
recommendation for the parishes in the
area, will conduct a survey of
parishioners. You are always welcome
to mail or e-mail your own parish
with your comments. Please
remember to be as concise and
concrete as possible. Include your
name and contact information. Be
realistic. Doing nothing is not a realistic
option. Be positive. Don’t just object to
what you do not like, but offer positive
suggestions as to what can be done. Be
open. Focus on the needs of all of the
people in your area, not just your own
parish. Be Christian. There is no place
for vitriol, gossip, or for imputing bad
intentions to others. Reasonable people
can disagree as to what is best for the
church in your area. Everyone is making
a good faith effort to do what is best.

Planning web page at http://archphila.org/conversion/
