Parents are grateful for 2012 Summer Enrichment Program
helping their children be successes rather than statistics!
NCC OFFERS THE GOSPEL, EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE TO INNER-CITY CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR GOD’S GLORY.
150 students were involved with our Summer Enrichment Program which included
NCC Prep (K-1st), Super Stars for Christ (2nd-5th), Hearts for Arts (6th-12th) and our
new Exceptional Leadership Program (6th-12th). Hear what the parents had to say
about the program.
“The Neighborhood Christian Centerʼs Summer Enrichment Program has had a significant positive impact on my three children
who participated in it. The program focused on
the total development of the children. This included physical, intellectual and spiritual enrichment. My 13-year-old son enjoyed taking
on new responsibilities assigned him as a volunteer. The children enjoyed the sports component that taught them teamwork. They
made new friends and improved on their interpersonal skills. The two younger children
found the academic component very beneficial
and all three of my children said they learned
more about God. My conclusion is that this
program is very good for the children and must
be sustained. Thank you for organizing it.”
“My daughter loves the Summer Super Stars program. Daily she
comes home singing a new song that she has learned for the day.
This program has had a strong impact on my daughter. She loves
attending class on a daily basis. She is eager to learn and is excited
about learning a new song. I would love for her to attend this program
next year. Thanks for all of your support and effort in making her summer fun and educational. Thank you!”
“I believe this is my boysʼ 6th year. It
has been a blessing. It academically reinforces what they learned
in school. They have fun with the
different activities. The amount of
money that it costs is very economical. My boys are volunteers this
year. They enjoyed helping out.”

“This program
was a blessing.
The staff were so
friendly. They
were like family. I
thank God for
each of you. Great
is your reward.”
“We are rejoicing, rejoicing
over the ultimate blessing
that 22 of our students
gave their life to Christ
this summer.”

The Summer Superstars are
Rashad and Ahmad Young
twins, Ahmad & Rashad Young.
The social support and educational tutoring offered at these programs has set both boys on the path for success. These twin brothers attend G. N. Smith Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi.
When the two arrived at the center, they both struggled in similar areas.

Rashad had a hard time concentrating on his work, and showed little
to no concern for his studies, while Ahmad was reluctant about participating with his peers and struggled in reading comprehension.
Since being at the center, the staff has seen growth in these areas
as well as many more. Rashad has developed a better work ethic and
has made major improvements in his attitude. He also raises his hand
to participate and is frequently giving correct answers in discussions.
Ahmad concentrates better on his work and exhibits leadership qualities. He shows a genuine excitement for the completion of his work,
and is motivated to learn. Initially neither Ahmad or Rashad wanted to
participate in our devotional period, which includes prayer and the student creed, Now they both are very eager to participate in devotional
period. Collectively, the students have become more energetic toward
their schoolwork. Their reading skills and attitude have improved
and they are developing better relationships with their peers.
Ahmad and Rashad Young are two great examples of the many students who have grown academically, socially and emotionally.

doing demolition in 2011, continued with myriads of energetic volunteers and was dedicated August 25, 2012!
Rafael Jackson has taken the helm as the director of
Peytonʼs House. Rafael says, “My dream for Peyton's
Leadership House it to witness middle and high school
youth grow to be followers of Jesus and to spread his
message of love to their peers and family members. I
also want to connect them with caring adults who are
willing to spend time with them to develop them into caring adults as well.” We have eight students this fall.
Would you like to be one of those caring adults?

Volunteers share their hearts
“Iʼve been a tutor for three years. I really like kids and
like being able to use my academic talent to help them.
I like watching them ʻget
itʼ for the first time which
encourages them to know
they can do it for themselves. We try to stay with
the same student, so I
have tutored about six children over the past three
years.”

“ Iʼve been a tutor for 5 years. As a history professor at
Hinds Community College, I am interested in helping
students, who I will one day teach, get on track
for success early. I have volunteered with the
same students from K-5th grade. I am proud
of their progress and have seen them grow
up to be good students and good people. I
love being a part of encouraging them.
I am also the Honors Program Director at
Hinds.
I try to emphasize service to the 60 stuDr. Ben Cloyd
dents in the program. I encourage them to be
a volunteer at NCC. There are usually about six or seven
who choose to come each week.” Dr. Ben Cloyd

One of God’s
NCC SUCCESSES
Once a student, NOW a volunteer
“NCC provides positive
instructions as to how a young
man of God should carry himself.”
Meet
GAVEN
HUGHES
“I joined NCC when I was seven and experienced a positive way to be
involved with other kids my age during the summer time. I especially enjoyed the final programs and still do as you can see in my picture!
I am a student at Callaway High School, a member of the (Charger Funk)
marching band as well as the Callaway High School Choir. NCC helped me
to do things like this by stressing the importance of success, education, and
how imperative it is to believe in yourself.
NCC helped me to become more mature and see life in a perspective
that can motivate me and allow me to overcome statistics. Now I volunteer
to set a good example for the kids who are looking for a positive role model
like I once was. Hopefully I have and will touch many in a positive and spiritual way.
Spiritually NCC always emphasized the importance of Jesus, and a
strong relationship with Him and Him only. At NCC I heard the invitation of
salvation, and came into a true relationship with Jesus.

How would I summerize my experience
with NCC? EMPOWERING, MOTIVATING
AND NURTURING!”
