Some 800 families turned this soccer field in
Solino, one of Port-au-Prince’s roughest
neighborhoods, into a tent camp following
the earthquake.
May their souls and all the souls of
the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Prayer for Peace
For peace in the world and an
end to terrorism and all war, we
pray to the Lord.
For the safety of our military serving all over the
world, we pray to the Lord.
For all Christians who are persecuted and martyred because of their faith, we pray to the Lord.
Today, Catholic Relief Services and the
city’s residents are restoring the soccer field
with artificial turf, turning it into a muchneeded recreation center.

NEUMANN SCHOLAR SELECTED AT SS. COLMAN-JOHN NEUMANN SCHOOL
Bridget Llull Earns Four-Year High School Scholarship
Ss. Colman-John Neumann School announced that one of its 8th-grade students, Bridget Llull,
was named a Neumann Scholar, which provides her with a four-year scholarship to the high
school of her choice within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia beginning Fall 2015.
This marks the second year in a row that a student from Ss. Colman-John Neumann has been
awarded this prestigious honor, with only five students from Delaware County winning the
award out of a field of more than 900 total qualified candidates.
Ss. Colman-John Neumann’s principal, Cathleen Lamberto, said, “We are so proud of Bridget
for her outstanding achievement. We congratulate all those who helped her on her academic
journey, including her family and teachers at Ss. Colman-John Neumann School. For a second
year, our academic excellence has been recognized by Bridget’s accomplishment. Our school
continues to be at the top of the list for families looking for a quality Catholic school education
in the Philadelphia area.”

SJN GARAGE SALE
April 11th & 12th
Our creation as men and women in the
image of God is why we are all called to the
virtue of chastity.
Chastity is expressed in different ways, according to whether or not we are married.
But for everyone, chastity involves refusing
to use our own or other people’s bodies as
objects for consumption. Chastity is the habit, whether we are married or not, of living
our sexuality with dignity and grace in the
light of God’s commandments. Lust is the
opposite of chastity. Lust involves looking at
others in utilitarian ways, as if the other’s
body existed merely to satisfy an appetite.
True chastity “does not disdain the body” but
sees the body in the full dimensions of personhood. Chastity is a great “yes” to the
truth of humanity created in the image of
God and called to live in the covenant.
“Can we use this basket, Mommy?
We’re playin’ Church.”
Speaking of “baskets” - here’s a tip about
our Garage sale.
The following are not saleable:
old tv’s (only flat screens) shoes
air conditioners
mattresses
console stereos
VCR’s
encyclopedias
text books
children’s car seats (unless brand new and
up to code)
stuffed animals
“baskets”
Thanks! Info (610-353-1875).
Understood this way, chastity is something
everyone is called to practice. “All the baptized are called to chastity….Married people
are called to live conjugal chastity; others
practice chastity in continence.”
God created the whole material world out of
his love for us. Everything we can see and
touch was created for the sake of God’s covenant. We do not always love as we ought,
but God’s pattern of love protects us and calls
us back to our true natures. Marriage and
celibacy are the two ways of being together
as male or female in light of God’s covenant,
and for this reason both marriage and celibacy are considered chaste ways of living.
