Homework help at the library
Did you know that the City of San Diego Public Library system offers homework help and tutoring services? Specifically, our Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library has programs to help with homework (Homework help for all grades!
Every Mon & Thu 3:30-5:00 pm AND Tue & Wed 4:00-6:00 pm), music (Musical Mentoring, choose 1st & 3rd Fridays 4:00-5:00 pm or 1st & 3rd Saturdays 1:15-2:15 pm), board games (Tactical Game Club (Saturdays at 10:30am),
and many other educational programs. These programs, supported by volunteers within the community, are a great
source for mentoring opportunities. Visit the children’s area of our library to learn more.
Jog-a-thon: Promote Heart Health, Support PVES, and Earn Prizes
By Sandi Oshiro and Kathy Kane, Jog-a-thon Coordinators
Jog-a-thon packets were sent home this week, and we hope you have had some
time to look over your packet. Students are being asked to reach out to family
members, relatives, family friends and acquaintances for financial support as
they pledge to run for their health on Tuesday, February 10. The
pledge amount is a flat donation, and it can be anywhere from $5,
$20, to $100 or more -- every dollar adds up! Some employers offer corporate matching, doubling your contribution. It would help us tremendously if parents could write a check for all the cash that is collected. Please use the Donation Form to
record what is collected and place both the form and the money into the envelope that is
attached to the packet. Turn in your collection envelope to your classroom teachers by
Tuesday, February 10.
Students who turn in $100 or more will have a chance to win one of two Y Fliker Scooters, generously
donated by SolarFuze and Jim Smith ERA Real Estate. Students who run the most laps in their class
will have a chance to win a new pair of running shoes, generously donated by Laces Running Company.
Our school-wide goal is to raise $20,000 in Jog-a-thon donations. It is tradition for our awesome principal, Mr. Ceceña, to participate in our BIG SCHOOL-WIDE INCENTIVE for reaching our fundraising
goal. This year, it will be a SLIME OBSTACLE COURSE designed by the TOP EARNING CLASSES
from each grade level. We will have a SLIME-a-bration if we hit $20,000, and it’s going to be SLIMEtastic! Let’s make it happen!!
Mid-Year PTA Membership Drive
By Loralee Daines, VP Membership
Have you joined PTA this year? If you have already signed up…THANK YOU! If you have not
yet done so, there’s no time like the present! Why join the PTA? The number one reason is to benefit your child. Part
of your annual membership of $10.00 goes directly to Council, District, State and National PTA, giving each of us a
voice and making a difference in funding for our schools. We highly encourage ALL parents, friends and relatives, PV
staff, and community members to show their support.
Annual Membership is $10.00 per person. For each paid adult member you may sign up one Junior PTA member for
free. You can sign up on-line by going to https://www.ptareg.com/registration.asp. Once you have registered you can
pay online using PayPal or print out your receipt and drop it off with a check made payable to “Park Village PTA” in the
PTA mailbox located just inside the front gates.
Principle Ceceña has agreed to award an extra recess to the class with the highest percentage of PTA members!
We are 50% to our goal. So, please take the time now to sign up and help us keep the many,
many programs supported by the PTA at our school.
Questions? Please contact Loralee Daines [email protected].
Peachjar Flyer Rack
Park Village has gone green with flyers. We have replaced the old-fashioned flyer rack with an online system where flyers and notices are uploaded onto a site called Peachjar. Parents can view and receive alerts for new flyers.
Here is a list of flyers currently posted on the Peachjar website. New flyers are in red. Click on Peachjar and it will take you to the
Peachjar site where you can select a flyer and view more information. You may access flyers on Peachjar at any time as a guest.
Once you register for free as a member, you will receive new flyer notifications via email and/or smartphone, depending on your
desired settings. To post Enrichment flyers on Peachjar, contact [email protected]. To post flyers for Our School, Parent Organizations, PUSD events and free Community events, please email Sandi Oshiro at [email protected] and attach the flyer.

TEACHERS: Please review the schedule and note the time when your class reports to the field. Your class color will serve two
purposes: 1. Students and parents will be asked to wear that color on the day of the Jog-a-thon (any appropriate t-shirt will do)
so that spectators can identify you during the run, and 2. Your class will begin the run from your assigned color station; you will
see different color stations around the track. Thank you for getting your students excited about the run, encouraging them to do
their best and collect money for their school.
ROOM PARENTS: We will provide tangerines and bottles of water at the end of each running session. Invite the parents in your
class to the Jog-a-thon and encourage them to assist with handing out sticks (for laps) and cheering their kids on. Ask parents to
wear the class color so their kids can identify them as they run by. Don’t forget to make a banner for your class that you can hang
on the chain fence surrounding the track. Thanks for your support!

Why join PTA?
The number one reason to join PTA is your child!
Use your PTA Membership to:
• Get Connected. PTA provides opportunities to meet and network with other parents, teachers,
and school administrators. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your child’s
school and community.
• Speak Up. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively be the voice for change at your child’s
school.
• Watch Yourself Grow. As a PTA volunteer, you can use your skills and hobbies for a relevant
cause while setting a good example for your child and all children in the community.
• Give Back. By becoming part of PTA, you will be part of the solution, to help make positive
changes in your child’s school and in the lives of many children.
• Effectively Engage. Spend quality time with your children through PTA programs, events and
resources. Not only will you show how much you care about them but will also demonstrate the
importance you place on their education.
