Sharon Kubena of Wharton has a system for buying Texas Lottery
scratch-offs that involves picking a ticket according to its number position on
the roll. Kubena’s system won her $25,000 in the $500,000,000 Blockbuster
game in November.
“Every time I buy a scratch-off, that’s the first thing I ask the clerk,” she said.
“There’s
just something about the numbers between 11 and
18 that is
lucky for me. I picked this ticket because it was
number
11 on the roll, which is the date my son was born.
Using this
process, I’ve won other prizes, $100, $200 and
even $500,
but never anything close to this.”
Kubena called the prize “a gift,” and said she
will spend her winnings on her family.
“This has been a tough year for my
family,” she said. “With this money I
can help out my sister and even
splurge on my husband... I
feel very blessed to be able
to do this for my family.”
Kubena bought the ticket
at the Food Town South,
9129 Highway 60 South in
East Bernard.
Truck driver Arthur Lee Holmes of Philadelphia, PA doesn’t get through
Texas as often as he would like, but every time he’s here he buys a Multi-Draw
Mega Millions® ticket with the Megaplier® feature. His October 22 purchase
won him $1 million in that night’s Mega Millions drawing when he matched
the 5+0 prize and purchased the Megaplier option.
The numbers on Holmes’ ticket were not quite personal selections.
Several years ago he got a Quick Pick that had
numbers he liked and has been playing them
ever since. He won on the first of the 10
drawings on his Multi-Draw ticket.
“After I pay off my debts, I’m going to save
some of my prize for retirement and also
share it with my family,” he said.
“… Even though I will buy lottery
tickets in other states, I’ll be
checking my Texas Lottery
tickets frequently.”
Holmes bought
the ticket at the
Golden Express
Truck Stop,
8417 North U.S.
Highway 287 in
Alvord.
Sandra E. Guzman of El Paso called it “a dream come true” to have
the opportunity to watch the Dallas Cowboys play in their new stadium in
Arlington. She won a pair of 2011 season tickets to the Dallas Cowboys home
games through a Texas Lottery second-chance drawing.
“The Dallas Cowboys have always been a part of my Sunday since I can
remember,” Guzman said. “I entered the Dallas
Cowboys tickets that didn’t win hoping I might
get a jersey or just anything from the secondchance drawing. I had to try. Then I got the
letter from the lottery. I couldn’t believe it.”
Guzman said she hasn’t gotten past being
excited and thrilled. “To think that I’m
going to be in the new stadium next year
watching ‘my’ team play really is
a dream that came true for me.
Now I can hardly wait for next
season.”
Remember, players—enter
those second-chance drawings
for another chance to win!
