LAST TALK OF CaFE –Wednesday 11th February
entitled “To boldly Go!” 7.30 pm-9.15 pm at Christ
the King and St Colman Parish Hall Bitterne SO18 53G.
NOTE from former parishioner ROBIN FOREMAN. As
you know, “WAR BABIES” I am a member of a group
we call the “War Babies” as many were born during
the Second World War. I remember being taught in a
Nisson Hut alongside an air raid shelter. The first
classroom I was taught in was the Green in the corner
of the playground near the prefabs behind the Police
Station (it was built by the RAF who manned a barrage
balloon on the site). We “War babies” are now in our
70s+. All attended St Patricks School until we moved
on to other schools, I with other boys went to
“Woolston Academy for Young Gentlemen!”
(Woolston Secondary School) with most girls going to
St Annes. Judith Veal emigrated to Australia with her
family. Many of us joined the Scouts and Guides and
when a little older all went to St Patricks Youth Club in
the Tin Church. Through the years we have attended
many funerals for the parents of a generation and
some War Babies.
On Friday 30th January 2015 many of us attended the
funeral of Chrissie Callaghan who was the last parent
of “War Babies” group to pass away aged 98. It was a
grand “do” after the Mass, old boyfriends and
girlfriends meeting again. Even I met my first girlfriend
after all these years (my wife thinks she had a lucky
escape!). May I thank Moira and the Callaghan Tribe
for allowing me to serve at Chrissie’s funeral Mass. It
was an honour to serve with a very old friend Pete
Isham and Chrissie’s grandchildren. It would be nice
for the “War Babies” to arrange a final social event
and not a funeral. ROBIN FOREMAN.
FLAME 2, CATHOLIC YOUTH FESTIVAL, WEMBLEY
ARENA, MARCH 7th. Tickets are still available for

speaking, including Cardinal Luis Tagle, recently by the

Philippines. The event is open to young people and
young adults, Year 10 upwards. For a full programme

CHURCH PARKING REVIEW. There has been
complaints from parents after fetching school children
at the front of the church. There were reports of
health and safety issues of cars coming in and out of
the small gate where it is difficult to see children
coming from the rear. We may need to close the gates
again when there are no church activities.
