Conference Council At the Annual Conference session in 2012, Pastor Steve was elected to a fouryear term on the Conference Council on Finance and Administration. This team works with Conference Treasurer Peter Dinofia to set the budget each year, and to provide oversight of all financial matters within the Eastern PA Conference. These are not easy times for the Church. Pray for your pastor and for the entire team as it seeks God’s will in being good stewards of EPA resources and (at the same time) trying to provide generous resources to empower local churches and serve the community. The CCF&A will meet in Valley Forge, Thursday, February 12th from 4 until 6:30pm. Page 5 United Methodist Women’s News We will be collecting new clothing for our Spring Ingathering on April 18th. We need new clothing for women, men, children and babies. Please put any clothing in our UMW box at the Donation Station! Socks for our Savior Last call for your warm feet gifts. It would be great to see the “winter sock tree” totally covered! All foot warmers will go to the men, women, and children's shelters in Coatesville. Can You Help? “...Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40) The Hopewell Good Works team has an opportunity for service on Saturday Feb 14th. The Good Works mission is to provide warmer, safer and drier housing to residents of Chester County; and to share God's love with them. We will be working with Krissy and the girls in Honey Brook. We meet at 8:15 at the Good Works warehouse in Coatesville. If you would like to join later at the house, please reach out to me for the address of Krissy's home. We welcome you to this opportunity. We meet the second Saturday of every month. The next work day is March 14th. Remember Easter is April 5th and these are the last two work days before confirmation. Please contact Mary Ann Fisher at 610-299-6383 or Deb Boyd at [email protected] if you need additional information or have any questions. Baked Potato Bowl Game Wrap-up I thank God for all the “potatoheads” who “stepped up to the table” and made this fundraiser a great success. $1,200.00 was generously donated and $600.00 will go to the Honey Brook Food Pantry and $600.00 will go to the Downingtown Lord’s Pantry. Thank you for being involved in something really super. This is what happens when we work as a team - aka - as the Body of Christ. Hallelujah!! Sincerely, Mrs. Potatohead, Matthew 25:40. Pastors’ Study Group One of Pastor Steve’s ongoing commitments is his participation in a Study Group with clergy from around the Conference who read a contemporary book each month, and then meet on a Thursday morning to discuss its content and application. Pastors included in this group are: the Senior Pastors at New Hanover UMC, West Lawn UMC, Grove UMC, Annville UMC and Exton UMC; and four recently retired clergy. This coming Thursday morning at Innabah, the group will meet to discuss Killing Jesus by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, a review of the political and historical events that made Jesus’ death inevitable - and changed the world forever. Page 6 Bower Chapel Renovation Project - An Exciting Update With the refurbishment of the organ for the Bower Chapel nearing completion, the renovation of the chancel area continues in preparation for the installation of the organ by Patrick Murphy Co. This included electrical updates as well as repainting the chancel area and preparing the floor for the installation of the new hardwood flooring The anticipated date of the organ installation is the week of Feb 17. With the approval of Church Council, six choir pews are available for purchase as well as the opportunity to donate a pipe in memory/ honor of a loved one. Please contact Sheri in the church office to make arrangements. To date the center rank of pipes has been donated. There remain six medium pipes and ten small pipes. If you are thinking about membership at Hopewell UMC, a newcomer, or someone seeking a church home … Pastor Join Pastor Steve for coffee and informal conversation, where you can learn more about Hopewell and what is involved regarding membership Please let Lynne know you are attending, [email protected]. Page 7 Sunday, February 15th 12:00 pm Adult Ministry Center UM Night at the Sixers On February 7th, the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team sponsored United Methodist Night, and Hopewell was there! Pastor Steve and Pastor Dan led a group of thirty (30) folks from our congregation. Since five dollars ($5.00) from every participating United Methodist will be rebated to the Eastern PA Conference for Men’s Ministries, our contribution to the mission is $150.00. This was a great way to enjoy fellowship, support Christian programming, and get the United Methodist name out in front of 15,000 fans! NEW MEMBERS CLASSES The next opportunity for joining Hopewell UMC will be March 7 & 8, 2015. The membership process consists of two classes. Dates and times for the next set of classes are as follows: Orientation class: Sunday, February 22, 10:55-11:55 AM Membership class: Saturday, February 28, 8:30-11:30 AM Please contact Lynne in the church office (610-269-1545 or [email protected]) if you are interested in joining. Deadline to register is February 17. Childcare is available during both classes. Staff Evaluations Each of the fulltime Program staff at Hopewell UMC is involved in the annual evaluation process right now. Employees solicited input from four-to-five reviewers from the congregation, plus the Senior Pastor or their immediate supervisor. If the evaluation form was forwarded to you on behalf of a particular staff member, Thank You for this valuable feedback. At Hopewell UMC, we strive for excellence and this regular “performance review” is an important part of that process. There are twenty-two (22) full or part time members of the Hopewell staff (non-school). As yet another measure of good administration, our financial leadership always attempts to keep the “staff compensation” portion of our annual budget within a range of 50-55% of total expenses. We are pleased to report that for the year 2014, our expenditure for staff compensation was once again within that range (actual: 51.7%). Praise God for the exceptional staff leadership we enjoy at Hopewell UMC.
