Dandy Daffodil Twead Ride
Bill Thayer Memorial Bench
Bill’s bench is installed on the Padilla Bay trail. It looks
great, the plaque is a little small but it is the largest
choice we had. Helen has seen the bench and is thrilled.

Club Info & Membership Form
Join us in La Conner on Saturday, March 28th, for a dashing
bicycle ride with a bit of style among the daffodil fields of
Skagit Valley.
This little jaunt, highlights some of the breath taking views
of Skagit Valley while still considering safety and comfort.
The ride itself will assume a very casual pace fit for cyclists
of all skill levels. Starting at the La Conner Channel Lodge the
13 mile loop will take roughly two hours (including stops) to
complete.
So wax your moustache, button your Knickerbockers, pull on
your argyle, mount your velocipede, and join us for a rollicking
ride!
Admission is $10 or £6.41. For more information, visit www.
thedandydaffodil.com.
It’s a perfect place to be planted and a beautiful place to
bloom. Tally-ho!

For those interested, this year’s tandem rally will be happening
in our own backyard, courtesy of Bellingham’s Mt Baker Bicycle
Club. Mark your calendars. For those tandem’ers who’ve
never been to one, they’re a blast. Usually over 600 participants from all over the northwest and beyond, a great chance
to socialize, check out the new machines, and ride a few new
roads. For all the info, check out: NWTR.org/2015.

Word Of The Domestique
The following is the opinion of the Super Domestique and is not intended to offend any religion, ethnic group, club, organization, company, gender,
sexual orientation or individual. The views of the Super Domestique are his own or something he copied from someone else, and do not in any
way reflect the views of the Skagit Bicycle Club. Furthermore, they do not necessarily reflect the views of the people who live in the same home,
neighborhood or city. Please also note that the fact this piece is written in English is in no way meant to malign other languages nor to malign those
who are illiterate visually impaired and thus are
unable to read the piece. Complements can emailed to [email protected] Complaints

Please keep in mind Colby is a pretty busy guy so if you don’t get a reply he is probably to busy to respond to a bunch of whining mountain bikers.
Hello everyone. Welcome to the second issue of the
Domestique. The fan mail has started to pour in welcoming me
back. I appreciate all your enthusiasm, and will answer your
letters soon. However, this last week there has been a very hot
topic in the news that has been overinflated by the media that
I would like to address first, but please keep the letters coming.
Pressure means everything! Both in life, and in sports.
Some people thrive on it., and others wither under it. In
cycling, tire pressure is key. This article could easily become a
book so lets keep it simple.
Shifting gears, This months diet and nutrition segment focuses
on wild bird:
Hunting is great cross training, and properly prepared bird taste
delicious. I must caution that in some areas of the country wild
birds have been known to be full of PEDs. If you are looking for
more power on the bike these PED rats of the sky can be an
excellent source of nutrition.
If you weigh less than 160 lbs DO not over inflate your tires,
ever. There is no reason. You are at the perfect weight for
cycling. Unless you are purchasing your tires from Walmart,
most manufacturers actually have spent considerable time in
figuring out what makes their tires fast. If they recommend 120
psi then you put in 120.
If you are pushing 200+, like me, it is time to talk over inflation.
On a tire rated for 120 I like to run at least 130-135 psi. I
certainly don’t want to blow the tire off the rim but I hate
looking back at my rear tire and thinking that it might be going
flat.
When do you under inflate? In wet conditions. But do not
remove more than 10 psi. This is important as you do not
want to pinch flat your tires on a road obstacle. In wet
conditions I’m back to the recommended 120 psi.
Check your tires before every ride. The best tires can
mysteriously loose pressure. Also be sure to never inflate your
tires in a sauna and then go on a ride where it is 52 degrees.
Many people have been surprised by how much a temperature
change can effect pressure. You would swear that someone
deflated your tires when in fact NOBODY TOUCHED IT AND IT
IS RIDICULOUS FOR ANYONE TO SUGGEST OTHERWISE.
The same can be said for pumping up your tires when its cold
and then having road temps hit 110 degrees. Many tires have
exploded for this reason on STP at high noon.
Always monitor your tire pressure.
One of my favorite recipes !
Osprey in curry with rice
Ingredients:
3-6 Osprey (or grouse, hawk, eider)
4-5 slices bacon
1 tbsp. oil
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. curry
1 onions
75 g flour
1 1/2 I water or broth
The birds do able, washed, dried and split lengthwise. Bacon cut
into cubes and toasted in small flares along with curry powder and
chopped onions, it should not brown. The flour will be executed in
and possibly a little more fat, so there is enough to absorb the flour.
Suppes whipped in and the sauce boil slowly for 10 minutes. birds
met in the sauce and the pan placed on little sleep. Boil until tender,
season to taste and serve with rice.
Tips: The birds can be cooked half tender in clean water, and finished
cooked in sauce, which then based on the soup from the birds. Recipe courtesy of HANS PETER AUKEN BECK
