Annie O’Malley House
Dear friends,
A very warm welcome to you all on the
first edition of Annie O’Malley House,
MACS News. To our fourteen residents we
transferred from Borrela House on Tuesday
27 January, thank you for your positive
response to your new surrounds and facilities.
A sincere thank you also to the families who
helped the residents re-locate. Your support
especially in helping the residents unpack
and get settled was instrumental in the day
running so smoothly.
I acknowledge that moving into a new facility
is never easy, but it was lovely for me to share
their first evening meal with the residents.
There lots of chatter...”Now where is my
room? How am I going to find my way back?
There is a hot buffet breakfast in the morning,
can I come down in my dressing gown?”
Change is always difficult and for our elderly
even harder but I have been delighted with
their positive approach to their new living
arrangements and I am sure it won’t take long
for them to settle in and make it their home.
I would like to acknowledge the long hours
and hard work a number of the leadership
team put into making the move go as
smoothly as it did. It was a great team effort.
With the exception of two beds, all new
admission beds have been taken up and
there will be a steady stream of admissions
into Annie O’Malley House over the next four
weeks. We expect to be at full capacity by
the middle of March. To the new residents to

sincere and warm welcome into the MACS’
family. The next six weeks will be constantly
changing as new residents are admitted,
routines changed, friendships formed and
lifestyle programs established. Come with
us on this journey, we won’t get everything
right all the time, but we are always open to
looking at ways we can improve things, so
if something is bothering you, please don’t
hesitate to speak to a staff member.
I have been delighted with the number of very
positive comments received to date on the
design of Annie O’Malley House and individual
rooms. We are all waiting for the piazza to
be completed, it is tantalizingly close and we
watch with interest as the clock tower takes
shape.
We do not have a start date yet for our
secured dementia unit as we are still finalising
funding for this last phase of our building
development.
Another busy year is ahead for MACS;
new care packages to be rolled out
into the community, accreditation for
our commonwealth funded facilities, a
new strategic plan to be finalised for
implementation over the next ten years, work
on our dementia unit and a commitment to
improving how we deliver our care and hotel
services to our residents and home care
consumers.
