Statistician General
The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) was established in terms
of the Statistics Act No 9 of 2011 and functions under the
administration and control of the Board of Namibia Statistics
Agency.
The Namibia Statistics Agency is seeking to appoint the
Statistician General.
This is an executive position and
the Agency’s most senior position with considerable
responsibilities that not only interacts with senior officials in both
government and private sector in Namibia, but also interacts and
represents the Agency and the nation atinternational platforms.
The Statistician General as the Chief Executive Officer is a
member of the Board, accountable for the implementation of the
Statistics Act no 9 of 2011 and is expected to ensure the
professional independence, quality and credibility of the
production of all official statistics in Namibia.
Core Description of the job
Strategically direct, manage and regulate the NSA
building internal capacity,improving internal work processes,
staff performance and overall effectiveness including sound
financial and efficient management, to provide sound statistical
information supporting national policy and development.
Requirements
• Namibian citizen or permanent resident
• Qualifications at post graduate of a Masters or equivalent level, preferably in one or a combination of the following disciplines: Statistics, information technology, economics, mathematics, demographics or any other related field (a PHD will be an added advantage).
• Advanced experience in the coordination of the statistical outputs and services at a national and international level, including 5 years experience in an executive role within a statistical and or macroeconomic analysis advisory environment.
• Satisfies all requirements of the Statistics Act no 9 of 2011

• Proven team management, capacity building and technical leadership
• Maintain high ethical standards and code of practice in the organisation.
• Strategic and financial planning and decision making.
• Strong negotiation, coordination and project management abilities
• Regulate statistical outputs and services at national and international levels.
• Advise on and integrate statistical functions into national development programmes.
• Statistical methods, techniques and macro-economic modelling.
• Sound understanding of local and international economy.
• International standards and best practice regarding concepts, definitions, collection and compilation of statistics & data management.
• International standards and best practice regarding compiling national accounts, economic and trade statistics.
• Methodology related to concept, definition, collection and compilation of geographic, spatial and cartographic data, its processing, analysis and storage at national level.
• Challenges & complexities of statistics in general.
• Corporate governance and risk management
• Relevant legislation and regulations
A remuneration package commensurate with the qualifications,
experience and stature of this Windhoek based position will
be negotiated and offered. Namibian citizens will be preferred.
