We have a very busy 1st term ahead of us with some big fundraising events straight up. Our biggest event this term of course is our 50th Anniversary Fete and reunion dinner. We will be running a BBQ/ canteen during this event and will need helpers with both cooking and serving. The last day of this term will see the school’s annual Cross Country being held at the AFL grounds and we will be asking parents to donate home baking for us to sell at our canteen on the day. Our last event for this term will be the Dalby Show, which we run the main food catering/ stall out of the main pavilion. This year the show dates 10th/ 11th April will fall during the school holidays. This has been a great fundraiser for the P&C and hope that parents will continue to support with helping during this event, as they say many hands make light work. All the money raised by the P&C is returned directly into the school and benefits all of our children now and in the future. If you have any questions or have ideas for us, please let us know through the office. Our meetings are every third Monday of the month in the library starting at 7:30pm. Everyone is more than welcome, our first meeting for the year will this coming Monday! Becoming more independent by looking after our pencils, lunch boxes, water bottles, hats and folders is a big job but we are showing improvements. The green area, Year One playground and the oval are new experiences for the Year One cohort. Many students are making new friends. English In English we are comparing imaginative and information books. This week we will study Mr Gumpy’s Outing and compare this to an information book about taking a journey. Reading Our reading groups are enjoying new books. The school has purchased a large amount of new texts. We have begun taking home readers and it is great to see the students returning their folders each day. Writing We have been writing stories using the Seven Steps Program. We are also incorporating the process of Think, Talk, Sketch and Write in to out planning phase. Spelling We have been using the Sound Waves program which began last week. This week we begin incorporating spelling into our homework routine. Mathematics Out Mathematics study is concentrating on familiarisation of numbers to 30. We are learning to recognise the number, read the word form and make a model of the number. This week we are working with measurement, using different ways to measure length. We are also learning to value of our silver and gold coins. Science This term in Science we are investigating Materials. We will look closely at the properties of various materials and what changes can occur when we attempt to alter the Materials. We are looking forward to conducting experiences, especially with spaghetti. ICT This term we are facing a great challenge in ICT, learning to log on ourselves. It has been a challenge which the students have shown great patience, determination and persistence. We haalso explored Reading Eggs and will utilise reading eggs for reading at both school and home. History This term in History we are exploring what significant events happened in our life. We are spending a lot of time remembering wonderful events and posing questions to further explain in depth who, what, when, where, why and how.
