From the Desk of Father Pauselli
Congratulations to Jake Paul Shields who will be baptized this weekend at Divine Mercy.
Jake Paul is the son of Michael and Dana Wesnak Shields. He was born on November 6,
2014. May the Lord bless Jake Paul and his family on this most special occasion!
Congratulations to Salvatore DeFrancesco and Kevin Sompel who will receive the Eagle
Scout Award this weekend. This is a fine achievement for two young men who are very
active in our parish community. Salvatore is one of our weekend sacristans and Kevin does
a fine job at the piano for our weekend Masses. We are very fortunate to have both of them
at Divine Mercy and I congratulate them and their families on this most special occasion!
Wednesday of this week is Ash Wednesday. Ashes will be blessed and distributed at services at 7:00AM and 5:30PM and also at Mass at 12:10PM. The following are a list of
Lenten regulations for Lent 2015:
All the faithful of the Diocese of Scranton are reminded of Diocesan Statute No.41, which
addresses the penitential aspect of Lent:
“The season of Lent is penitential in nature and during Lent penance should not only be
internal and individual, but also external and social (Sacrosanctum Concilium, No.5, 109).
Pastors are obligated to avoid scheduling activities in the parishes which in any way could
possibly detract from the external and social penance required by Lent.”
Ash Wednesday, February 18, marks the beginning of Lent. The following fast and abstinence regulations are observed:
-Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence.
-Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence.
-All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating
meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays during Lent.
-All Catholics over 18 years of age to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to
the obligation of fasting. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal and
two smaller meals unless dispensed or excused.

OUR SHELVES ARE BARE…
DONATIONS NEEDED FOR OUR FOOD PANTRY…
Our food pantry at the former St. John Neumann School (now Whittier
Annex) is in great need of your donations. We have over sixty families each week
coming to us in need. This means at least sixty boxes of cereal, sixty bottles of juice, sixty boxes of
pasta, sixty cans of vegetables, fruit, etc. are being distributed every week. We really need your
help. If each family would bring at least one item to church each weekend, we should be able to
meet our needs—for now. Thank you for your generosity to us.
-Sr. Janet Jeffers, I.H.M., Catholic Social Services
The Greatest Gift
Do you have a family member or neighbor who cannot leave their home to attend Mass
and receive the Blessed Sacrament? Our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are
here to serve your loved ones by bringing them the gift of Christ Himself, the greatest gift
that can be given. If you know of someone we should be serving, please contact Vince
Klingler at 570-205-5716 or [email protected] for arrangements.
