First Sunday of Lent
February 22, 2015
Entering into the desert of Lent with Jesus can lead us to new
life. The first Sunday of Lent calls us to enter the desert with
Jesus. The sacrifices we make can free us to come closer to
Jesus and become better witnesses of the Good News. They
can also help purify our hearts that we might be found worthy
one day to enter into eternal life.

Year of Consecrated Life
In 2013, Pope Francis declared that a Year of Consecrated Life
(YCL) be celebrated throughout the world. YCL will begin on the
First Sunday of Advent, November 30, 2014. It will close on the World Day of Consecrated Life, February 2, 2016Please keep those who have dedicated their lives to Christ.
Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the
evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you
thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches
us to make a more perfect offer¬ing of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth
sons and daugh¬ters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all
things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. -Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life And Vocations

Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the
human race Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of
humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man and
giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to
You By following His example of suffering and make us
worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this
through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
FASTING & ABSTINENCE
Lent is not merely a time for spiritual renewal but also a
time to show our compassion and care for others. Lent
offers us a time to renew ourselves in faith by growing in
prayer and reflection and in our relationship with Jesus.
This can be done by increased familiarity with Scripture,
private and community prayer and celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation. We are also to grow our faith
through our charity and compassion for others.
Today’s readings: In the Book of Genesis, Abram
made an act of faith in God and goes to where He has
called him to journey. Paul tells of the strength to bear
hardships that come from God. In the Gospel, Pete,
James, and John are present for the Transfiguration.
Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday,
Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics
14 years and older. Fasting is observed on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18
years of age but not yet 59.
The presentation of the
Living Stations of the Cross
on Good Friday has
become a long-standing tradition here at Holy Family
Parish. We invite all to
come and enjoy this very
moving presentation on Good Friday in the Church at
8pm on April 3.
Open auditions are scheduled for the following dates:
March 1- 1-2:30pm in the Choir Room
March 3- 7-8pm in the Good Shepherd Room
Call Crystal Flaviano for more information.
