Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offer¬ing of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daugh¬ters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man and giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You By following His example of suffering and make us worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT FASTING & ABSTINENCE Lent is not merely a time for spiritual renewal but also a time to show our compassion and care for others. Lent offers us a time to renew ourselves in faith by growing in prayer and reflection and in our relationship with Jesus. This can be done by increased familiarity with Scripture, private and community prayer and celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation. We are also to grow our faith through our charity and compassion for others. Today’s readings: In the Book of Genesis, Abram made an act of faith in God and goes to where He has called him to journey. Paul tells of the strength to bear hardships that come from God. In the Gospel, Pete, James, and John are present for the Transfiguration. Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years and older. Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. The presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday has become a long-standing tradition here at Holy Family Parish. We invite all to come and enjoy this very moving presentation on Good Friday in the Church at 8pm on April 3.
