back of church. We usually have a Sunday School for children aged 4-11 in Church House
during the Parish Eucharist in term time but this is not meeting this Sunday. Morning
Prayer is generally said Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8.30am (entry by St. George’s
door). N.B. Evening Prayer is not said during January and February.

Christian Aid is holding Lent Lunches on Thursdays in Lent. All are invited
to attend at Wimborne Methodist Church any time between 12.15pm and
1.30pm for bread, cheese and fruit, and a brief ‘’Thought for the Day’ given at
around 12.45pm. No charge, but donations welcome to a Christian Aid fund for
the relief of hunger.
Lent is a good time to cut down on our carbon as well as chocolate! The ‘Carbon
Fast’ that we, together with other churches in the south western dioceses, will be
following during Lent, reminds us each day of actions we can take to reduce our
carbon footprint. There is a particular focus on water this year. Daily e-mails at

Fair Trade Fortnight begins 23rd February. On Saturday 28th February why
not put your best foot forward – to Wimborne Square where the town’s “Fair
Trade Hits the Target” event will be taking place with AFC Bournemouth
between 10.00am - 3.00pm. On Saturday 7th March there is a Fair Trade coffee
morning (Fairly-traded coffee/tea and cake, of course) at the home of Cllr Pat
Hymers, 14 Westfield Close, Wimborne 10.00am – 12.30pm. These are great
opportunities to strengthen our church’s commitment to and pride in Fair Trade. See
you there!

Noon Prayers during Lent: We are asked to include reference to the 40-day
Carbon Fast each day in Lent. Before your duty, please have a look at the daily
suggestions, a copy of which can be found near the pigeonholes. Another copy will
be left in the pulpit, together with suggested words. Information also available on the

Greenbelt Group – Sunday 1st March 7.30 for 7.45pm – 9.00pm.
Downstairs in Church House. This evening meeting, led by Liz Watson, will
focus on loneliness, at a time when increasing numbers of people live alone. We
will listen to a Radio 4 ‘Call You and Yours’ programme, which explores causes of
loneliness, possible ways of addressing it, and the difference between loneliness and
solitude. We will then discuss the ideas and explore ways in which we might either
overcome loneliness ourselves or help others to do so. With refreshments at

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race A record turn-out: 198 participants across 37
races! A record amount of money raised for the Mayor’s Charities, The Minster and
the Priest’s House Museum, £227.00. The Minster Pancake Champion was Harvey
Camp. Many thanks to participants, sponsors and all who helped in any way to
ensure a successful event. Full details of results in March or April PRINT.
We are sad to report the recent passing away of Geo (George) Chambers. Geo and
his wife Kay were regular members of the Minster Congregation for many years. He
was a Minster Sidesman and a popular Minster Guide. He was also Secretary of the
Friends of the Minster. They lived in Wimborne before moving to Broadstone and
then to Hertfordshire to be nearer the Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with
Kay and the family at this sad time.
New Appointment for the Bishop of Sherborne – Bishop Graham Kings
who joined the Minster congregation earlier this month for both the Parish Eucharist
and Matins is leaving the Diocese in April. He has been appointed as the Mission
Theologian in the Anglican Communion, as part of a partnership for ensuring that the
voices of overseas theologians are heard (full details on the Salisbury Diocesan
website). There will be an opportunity to say goodbye to Bishop Graham at
Evensong in the Cathedral on Sunday 19th April at 4.30pm. All are welcome. Any
contributions to a leaving gift should be made payable to Salisbury DBF (marked
Bishop of Sherborne on the back) and sent to Phil Musselwhite at the Diocesan
Office, 99 Crane Street, Salisbury, SP1 2QB. I am sure that we all wish Bishop
Graham well in his new Appointment. Churchwardens.
Wildlife Talk and Slides Thursday 5th March. Brian Pettit, an expert local
professional wildlife photographer is coming to the Oasis meeting on Thursday 5 th
March with a presentation called “Wildlife on your Doorstep.” This will be in Church
House Hall at 1.30pm and anyone interested is welcome to join us for a cost of
£3.00.
Food Bank This week we are low on tetrapak Fruit Juice (from concentrate); toilet
paper, tinned and powdered potato, tinned spaghetti/macaroni. Thank you, as always

Lent; Mission to Seafarers; F.A.N quarterly magazine; Church Amy Prayer Diary for
2015.
Book Aid: Have you looked on your bookshelves recently? Please do, sift out any
Christian books which you could part with. Take them to the Parish Office or Jane
Caley, who will deliver them to a local collection point for Book Aid, for sorting and
shipping to third world countries hungry for Christian literature. Bibles especially in
demand. Jane will pass your contributions on at the end of February. Thank you

Lighthouse for a New Wine Ladies’ Day. £25 may seem expensive, but it is
really good value for a day of fellowship, worship, teaching and prayer ministry led by

Choral singers – Forms are now available in the Parish Office for the Come and
Sing Stainer’s ‘Crucifixion’ to be held on Palm Sunday, 29th March, 3.15pm
rehearsal for a performance at 6.30pm. Cost £10. Peter Cook.
The celebrated Kenfig Hill and District Male Voice Choir will be giving a major
concert in the Minster on Saturday 11th April, in aid of Minster funds. Details of

WIMBORNE AND AROUND THE AREA.
Hilfield Friary – Saturday 28th February “Snowdrop Day at the Friary”, a
chance to view the first signs of Spring. Now 26 varieties of the plant, after the
discovery a new one last year by one of the community members. Bring a picnic
lunch to enjoy and tea/coffee is always available.
The next meeting of the Bournemouth William Temple Association will take
place on Monday 2nd March at the Days Hotel, Bournemouth, when Michael
Beesley will lead an interactive meditation entitled ‘Living through Holy
week with St. Luke’. The meeting begins at 8.10pm and is preceded by dinner

Friday Night Mission: The BID is very keen for the initiative of serving tea and
toast to late night revellers in Wimborne Square on Friday nights from the
community bus to continue, and it is planned that this will happen as from Friday 6th
March. Local churches are asked to help in one of three ways: joining the prayer
support teams; joining the Friday night teams, enabling the current three teams to
be increased to four; joining the bus driver team which requires a class 2 HGV
