1st Sunday of Lent
PASTOR’S COLUMN
On this First Sunday of Lent the Sacred Scriptures remind us of
temptation and sin, and the absolute need of repentance for our
sins that will lead to everlasting life. In the Book of Genesis,
Noah endured the devastation which followed the 40-day great
flood, a prefiguring of baptism. Afterward God established
with Noah and all mankind a covenant: “This is the sign that I
am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and
you and every living creature with you: I set my bow in the
clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the
earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall
never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.” In
the fullness of time, God fulfilled that promise by a New Covenant of love when he sent his Son Jesus among us for the forgiveness of sins. After his 40-day trial and temptation in the
desert (traditionally read on this first Sunday in Lent) Jesus did
not succumb to the temptations of the devil but was strengthened to face the trials that lay ahead as he completed the works
of redemption. Jesus’ first spoken words in Mark’s gospel reveal God’s plan for all mankind: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in
the gospel.” The words of “the gospel of God” proclaimed at
every Mass are meant to move us to action: to be charitable, to
be compassionate, and to be loving toward all. Reach out to
your neighbor with hands of charity….. Last week the parish
ordered a piece of HVAC equipment for the school with a price
tag of $142,000. Delivery is expected in April. This equipment
is part of the solution to the mold problem that occurred last
September. Please continue making special donations each
month to the “Mold Remediation Fund”. The Finance Council
is grateful to those parishioners who donate approximately
$8,000.00 to the fund each month. We encourage all families
to make donations to this appeal. You may donate online at
Faith Direct or thr ough the envelope….. Don’t forget the
Fish Fry this coming Friday! Come and enjoy the fish and
fixin’s, and the opportunity to socialize with fellow parishioners
and friends in the cafeteria. The Fish Fry at Queen is the place
to be!

1st Sunday of Lent
“After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God…” Mark 1:14
Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for
Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been
arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus
to do what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In
the same way, following a life of stewardship takes great
love and trust from us. We must be willing to surrender
completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all
that we need to fulfill His plan for us.

Suggestions for Lent: Fast. Pray. Give up your Envelopes! Ser iously, we invite you to help your par ish save
money by giving up your offertory envelopes this Lent
and enrolling with Faith Direct. Doing so will provide
Queen of All Saints with consistent support and simplify
your giving without the wasteful envelopes. Join many

You can quickly sign up online at www.faithdirect.net
using our church code: MO86, or by mailing an enrollment form available in the parish office.
Ordinary monthly operations continue during the Capital
Improvement Appeal cur r ently under way at Queen of
All Saints. We appreciate the extra financial donations
from all our families as the parish strives for more solid
financial footing after the mold crisis of last fall which
significantly impacted our financial reserves. Please consider adding Mold Remediation Appeal to your monthly
or weekly donation choices at Faith Direct, the parish's
electronic eGiving program. Thank you for your prayerful and financial support of Queen of All Saints Parish.

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR
REMEDIATION COVERAGE AND HVAC SYSTEMS IN SCHOOL AND LIMBACH HALL
Queen of All Saints Parish is asking all parishioners and
friends of the parish for contributions to cover the cost of
remediating the school and church hall last summer, and to
cover the cost of repairs to or replacement of the HVAC
systems in the school and Limbach Hall.
The Finance
Council is asking each donor to contribute an extra donation in addition to their ordinary weekly or monthly
offering for these expenses. A special “Mold Remediation Appeal” envelope is contained in the monthly envelope packet. Donations may also be made through Faith
Direct (enroll at the parish office or online at Faith Direct; the QAS parish code is MO86). The parish expended $465,000 for remediation repairs in the school and the
church hall during the ordeal. A new boiler for Limbach
Hall was installed just this week in an unrelated HVAC
event at a cost of approximately $60,000. And finally,
the repair of HVAC system in the school is currently under
discussion by members of the Capital Improvement Committee. Once a cost figur e is deter mined, we will publish that information. The parish Finance Council appreciates your assistance in covering these extraordinary expenses which obviously were not known at the time the
current budget was approved last spring.

1st Sunday of Lent
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, W hat is Lent?
Rite of Sending,
Lent is a 40 day season of repentance in anticipation of
the Crucifixion of Christ on Good Friday. It is a time
for us to grow in spiritual maturity, through acts of
penance, prayer, almsgiving, abstinence, and fasting.
This Lent, take time to go to Confession and participate in the Stations of the Cross. There are also many
excellent Lenten reflection books available. Do you
know why Lent is forty days long?

members of the Elect – those chosen by God for Baptism,
Confirmation and Holy Communion – and to pray for our
Candidates’ continued growth in the Spirit. We will then
journey to the Cathedral Basilica to celebrate the Rite of
Election (of the Catechumens) and the Call to Continuing

1st Sunday of Lent
On January 22, 2015, the Pro-Life March
in Washington, DC
commemorated the 42nd anniversary of
Roe v. Wade.
Check out these new powerful talks on abortion
now available in the Lighthouse kiosk!
Stephanie Gray is a passionate and uncompromising defender of the Catholic Faith,
as well as an advocate for
those who cannot speak for
themselves. She frequently
travels across Canada and
the United States speaking
on issue related to the humanity of the unborn, utilizing her unique ability to speak to people on either side of
a pro-life issue.
In this presentation given at a
“Students for Life” conference, Stephanie talks about
the dignity of the human person through a biblical lens as
she seeks the truth regarding
today's pressing Life issues.
Jennifer Fulwiler is a popular writer and speaker
from Austin, Texas, and
frequently appears on
Catholic radio and EWTN.
In this eye-opening presentation, she explains how
her original support for
abortion was based on love
(and lies). Through sound
logic and scientific proof,
Jennifer chronicles how she came to accept the truth
about abortion.
