2/8/15 - St. John the Baptist

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
The Deacon’s Bench –
Dear Parishioners,
Since the Mass attendance last Sunday
was very low because of the bad weather, I
am repeating a couple of announcements contained in the last
Sunday’s Bulletin, so as to keep all parishioners informed about
what is going on in our Parish.
As it was promised before Christmas, in last week’s bulletin
(found in Sala Hall) you will find the official report from our
Festival Executive Committee and Finance Committee about the
2014 Italian Festival. As you can see, overall the Festival was
truly a huge success and the net income was record breaking.
First of all, we give thanks to God for such a blessing and are
grateful to our Patron, St. John the Baptist, for his interceding
for the success of the Festival. Secondly, I want to acknowledge
the great efforts of the co-chairs, Landa Brunetto and Carol
Ristucci, in organizing and guiding every aspect of the Festival;
my personal heartfelt thanks to them. Finally, I want to thank all
the Parishioners for the contributions, the dedicated service and
the hard work of everyone, both “seen and unseen.” Praise be
to God and grateful thanks to all of you.
It is time to get revved up and to get on board with the Catholic
Women’s and Men’s Conferences that are scheduled for
Saturdays, February 21 and 28, respectively. Both will be
held at the Voinovich Building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.
There is a great headline of speakers, along with Mass and the
opportunity for Confession. I encourage ALL OF YOU to sign up
as early as you can. There are brochures and information for
both Conferences in Sala Hall; also, Claudio Pasian and JoAnn
Marcucci, respectively, for the Men’s and Women’s Conference.
In preparation for Lent, I am bringing back the Lenten Soup
Suppers as our contribution to the “almsgiving” efforts of our
Parish as a whole. They will be held again on Wednesday
evenings during Lent, at 6:30 approximately, after Mass or The
Stations of the Cross. I would like each of the Parish groups
to volunteer to organize one Lenten Supper of their choice.
Perhaps two groups or two-three families can combine their
efforts to provide five Lenten Soup Suppers throughout Lent.
The dates of the Suppers are: February 25, March 4, 11, 18
and 25. A sacrificial offering will be taken up during each Lenten
Supper among those participating. The proceeds from the
Lenten Soup Suppers will be given to the PIME missionaries.
I would like to ask that all Parishioners take part in at least one
of these Suppers during Lent, more often if it is possible. Any
group interested in helping out in this Lenten Supper is asked to
contact me at [email protected] and let me know of your
preference.
Lastly, it is hard to believe, but the season of Lent is soon upon
us. Ash Wednesday is February 18, and there will be many
offerings to grow in faith during this season. Please look for a
flier that will have the schedule of all the Masses and devotions
available to the Parishioners. During Lent, we will also introduce
the “Padre Nostro” – “Our Father.” Please embrace these efforts
to link our worship and prayers with that of our ancestors and
our spiritual roots.
Dio vi benedica abbondantemente,
il vostro
