March 2015 Published Monthly—Volume #30 [email protected] EDITOR– DAVID ROBERTS 605 Green Street Parkersburg, WV 26101 PARKERSBURG ELKS LODGE # 198 LETTER FROM EXALTED RULER, O.B. EPLING Well February has come and gone, during the month the Lodge had elections of officers, Thanks to those of you willing to serve in an office. The membership appreciates your efforts. List of 2015-2016 officers listed in separate article. Valentine’s Day dinner was enjoyed by everyone that attended. Hats off to the folks who put that on. The kitchen is up and running for small meals and so on. The PER drawing was a great success thanks to all the PER'S for putting that event on. With that being said don't forget to check out Comfort Food dinner on Monday night, the Spaghetti Night on Wednesdays evenings, Steak night on Fridays and Breakfast on one Saturday of the month. March will be just as good as always, a few things going on, the Easter Egg Hunt on the front lawn of Parkersburg High School’s campus on the 17th and also a St. Patrick's Day party at the Lodge. Two great events in one day. Please refer to the calendar for other great events and times. In the past year there has been some great work by our members with some more than others. I will be honoring their efforts with an awards event on Saturday, March 28th. All members are invited, there will be finger foods and free beer at 6:30 pm with the awards ceremony to follow at 7 pm. Please plan to attend and show your appreciation to these members. In closing, I have a real simple suggestion. Become an active member, come down to the lodge, bring a friend, and support your Lodge. It's a great place to be. Fraternally yours, O.B. Epling, Exalted Ruler POPULAR REQUEST The Elk NASCAR Club and many other members have asked the following question: Why we are not open on Sundays? Starting this month the opening time on Sundays will 1 PM. Another request was to have Karaoke on both Friday and Saturday nights with different KJs. Starting this month there will be Karaoke on both nights. The KJ for Saturday is JOE-E-OKIE formally known as the artist JINX. Many of you have probably seen and heard JINX at other locations including the Karaoke Cruises on Rubles Sternwheeler. The Trustees and House Committee work together to implement requests from our members. Member requests are reviewed as to their financial feasibility and benefit to the lodge. Contact O.B. Epling, Exalted Ruler if you have a request and he will forward it to the Trustees and House Committee. You will receive prompt action with a timely response. Not all requests will be granted but you will receive an explanation as to why. MEMORIAM TO OUR ABSENT MEMBERS ARLEY L. PIDCOCK BETTY LUTZ THEY HAVE PASSED TO REALMS ON HIGH AN EGG-CELLENT HUNT On March 17th , the Elks Lodge will be having its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Parkersburg High School, on Dudley Avenue, at approximately 6:30 pm following the lighting of the Easter Basket at the PHS Easter Celebration. We have approximately 3-4 thousand eggs we will be hiding for the children. There are three age groups, and with each age group, one child will find the golden egg and win an Easter Basket containing goodies! The age groups are as follows: Toddler-Kindergarten, First- 3rd grade, 4th grade– 6th grade. (Each group will have their own sectioned off egg hunt to prevent the little ones from getting hurt in the frenzy.) I need volunteers to help at the egg hunt to hide eggs and watch over the children as they hunt. I also need volunteers to help stuff toys and candy into the plastic eggs to prepare them. We have a volunteer to dress as the Easter Bunny and another volunteer to dress in the Elks costume. If you can help with any of the prep work, please contact me at 304-481-9118. We will be having a meeting on March 7th at 4 pm in the Lodge meeting room to arrange all the details. Amber Smith, Event Coordinator PARKERSBURG’S EASTER PARADE We will be participating in the Easter Parade, in downtown Parkersburg, on March 21st at 2 pm. Craig and Amy Arnold have donated their time and trailer. I will need volunteers to help decorate the trailer and will need some volunteers and their children to ride. We will have candy to throw for the kids and we have some bunny ears for them to wear. We will also have volunteers in an Easter Bunny costume and in the Elks costume walking alongside the float. The parade times and route are unsure at this time, but I will try to have that information before the meeting which will be held March 7th at 4 pm in the Lodge’s upstairs meeting hall. If you can volunteer your time please contact me at 304-481-9118 Amber Smith, Event Coordinator Non-Profit Organization US Postal PAID Permit No. 21 Parkersburg, WV 26101 PARKERSBURG ELKS LODGE 198 605 Green Street IN REMEMBRANCE OF ALL VETERANS LODGE HOURS Monday—Thursday 4 -10pm, Friday 4-1pm Sat. 4-11pm Office– M-F 12pm -4pm Sundays Open 4-10pm Open Last Sunday of Month for Picnic in the Lot 1-4 pm Landscape Nursery Design OPEN OPEN AMVETS POST # 34 SUPPORT PARKERSBURG ELKS LODGE # 198 General Manager WV: (740)423-5497 SELECT PROPERTIES SINCE 1976 428-8429 WV 001416 O.B.
