LIVING THE MASS: How One Hour a Week Can Change Your Life
The word Mass comes from the Latin phrase, “Ite, Missa est”, meaning, “Go you are sent.” Now live as his disciple, with
his mind, heart and hands.
The Our Father gives us a frame work for understanding what this means.
The first three petitions of the Our Father help us understand the Mind of Christ. It is to have
 God’s name be praised (hallowed),
 God’s kingdom or God’s way of Life, the way of Agape Love, come, and
 God’s will be done.
The next two petitions help us understand the Heart of Christ.
 Give us our daily bread.
The One whom Jesus calls “Father” is far more wonderful and loving than any earthly Father. Because God is so good, Jesus’
heart is full of gratitude and he invites us, as his friends, to live with an abiding sense of gratitude.
 Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Fr. Rolheiser says that the litmus test of the mature disciple is to be able to “forgive one’s enemies”.
Forgiveness of one’s enemies is one of the highest forms of love.
The heart of Christ is one of gratitude and love.
The last two petitions help us understand the Hands of Christ.
 Leads us not into temptation.
Just as we ask God to preserve us from temptation, so we too are to help others turn away from all that is wrong and do good.
 Deliver us from evil.
Perhaps the more accurate translation is “Deliver us from the test”. When we provide a home for the homeless, food for the
hungry, a way out for those caught in sex trafficking, we are preserving them from the test.
The Our Father is like a treasure buried in a field or a pearl of great price. If we are willing to ponder it we will find all we need to
live life to the full, for it is the summary of the Gospel, the Good News of God’s love that come from Jesus Christ.
Praying the Our Father is one way we come to understand and begin to live with the Mind, Heart and Hands of Jesus. By reflecting on
the petitions of the Our Father we come to a more mature understanding of what it means to be a disciple.

Speed Faithing!
You’ve heard of Speed Dating, right? Well
this is not that! But it’s a similar concept.
This month, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. in
Feist Hall, will be a very special event that
should be a lot of fun for everyone of all
ages. The best way to actually have and
enjoy the lifelong benefit of a vibrant faith
is to have people you care about with
whom you can share your faith. But,
perhaps you don’t know how to ask the
teen in the pew next to you why they
believe in God — or the grandparent how
they see God in other people — or the
person who lost a loved one why they
think bad things happen to good people if
there is a God. Now’s your chance in a

“Bundles of Joy” Quilt Club is seeking new

are on a journey. Here we meet a family of Syrian refugees, a family perhaps not so
unlike our own. We are challenged through our almsgiving this week to reach out to
those who are forced to flee their homes, who are seeking shelter in a land of peace.

Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Thank you to those of you who came over
to Feist Hall for dinner and the carnival
last Saturday! The event was very
successful and as I mentioned in the
school bulletin this week, everywhere I
looked....everyone was smiling. Bingo
Night is Saturday the 14th, and that is
another fun event that is family friendly
and full of smiles (I get to crack a few jokes
as the Bingo caller, and Father Mike will
be the special guest caller again).
The school bulletin boards are full of neat
Lenten activities, art, writing, and other
symbols of our Catholic faith. Some days,
without telling anyone, I just walk down
the elementary hall and read everything
that is on the bulletin boards. Inevitably,
by the time I reach the end of the hallway,
I realize how lucky I am to get to see these
kids grow up, right before my eyes. Their
work is always amazing, and their teachers
ability to get the creativity out of them is
even more impressive. We have such a
wonderful school, and I truly thank you
for your support.

Signify your participation in the Spiritual
Adoption Ministry by having a heart put

What is the Retrouvaille program? Retrouvaille is a community of disciples committed to helping hurting couples heal
their marriages. The Retrouvaille program offers couples the opportunity to rediscover each other and examine their lives
in a new and positive way. No matter what is causing the hurt, couples can find healing. Retrouvaille is Catholic in origin
and supported by the Seattle Archdiocese.
Who is it for? It is for couples with strained marriages, including those in the initial stages of distress, as well as those in a
state of hopelessness and considering divorce. While many attendees are Catholic, married couples of all faiths are
welcome.

SpeedFaithing!
You’ve heard of Speed Dating, right? Well this
is not that! But it’s a similar concept. This
month, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. will be a very
special event that should be a lot of fun for
everyone of all ages. The best way to actually
have and enjoy the lifelong benefit of a vibrant
faith is to have people you care about with
whom you can share your faith. But, perhaps
you don’t know how to ask the teen in the pew
next to you why they believe in God — or the
grandparent how they see God in other people
— or the person who lost a loved one why they
think bad things happen to good people if
there is a God. Now’s your chance in a fun,
lively and intergenerational event. Quick
groupings, rotating around with question cards
at each table mean there will not be a dull
moment. Refreshments provided. Please mark
your calendar!

Cleaned and tested the water dispensers in the Nuevo Paraiso compound.
Tested the water at the Santa Rosa de Lima clinic.
Installed a chlorinator at the clinic.
Conducted training with the clinic staff on how to use the chlorinator.
Tested the water at the Tia/Tio houses at Nuevo Paraiso.
Did repairs to the UV systems at the Tia/Tio houses.
Repaired miscellaneous electrical problems at the Nuevo Paraiso compound.
Tested the water in the Nuevo Paraiso kitchen.
Visited Flor Azul village where water tanks were installed the previous year.

Did flow and pump down tests at Flor Azul Farm.
Met with the new Agriculture Director at Flor Azul Farm and explained the water system.
Met with an American NGO doing water projects in the Nuevo Paraiso area and started a collaborative dialogue.
Worked on the primary water tanks at Nuevo Paraiso to resolve a low water problem. Determined there was likely a malfunctioning
valve and repaired the problem.
Did follow-up tests in and around Nuevo Paraiso.
Along with the above mentioned medical and construction brigades, the mission team provides school supplies, toiletries, and clothing.
Preparations have already begun for the 2016 mission trip, scheduled for January 22-January 30, 2016.
