SISTER PARISH UPDATE
From Msgr Philippe , Zoranje, Haiti
My Dear friends of St Patrick-St Anthony,
Here at St Genevieve, Zoranje, we feel a holy
joy seeing the work of our new church
progressing day by day. Our sister Frances D’Amico
came to celebrate our patroness feast with us on January
25th. What a delight.
In the second week of Lent let’s allow the Holy
Scriptures to shape our behavior. Through the cross of
Jesus, the innocent, we foresee the great joy of Easter
morning, the greatest one that any human being can
experience.
In Zoranje, it’s still dry. No rainfalls yet. Peasants are
preparing their fields filled with hope. God will send to us
water from above so that we can have a better harvest
this year. Every Sunday as we gather for a big
Eucharistic celebration we pray for you, your pastor,
your family members and friends.
May Jesus allow us to follow him until the Easter victory.
ROSARY DURING LENT
Please bring your prayers and petitions to be
placed before our Blessed Mother as we pray
the rosary each Friday evening during Lent
concluding on March 20. We will be praying
the four mysteries of the rosary. Please join us
in church in Our Lady of the Angels chapel at 7
p.m. All are welcome!
ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps provide the critical
funding needed to feed the hungry, shelter the
homeless, counsel those in despair, offer much-needed
assistance to the unemployed, and make medical care
available to those without health insurance. Your gift to
the 2015 Appeal will help to continue these and other
vital ministries, services, and programs that reach out to
so many in need.
Program for Separated and Divorced Persons
Our New Life program for separated and divorced
persons began at St. Patrick-St. Anthony on March 12
and will continue each Thursday evening through May 21
(except for April 2).
Two parishioners are co-facilitators. Registration is still
open. Please call the parish office at (860) 756-4034 or
e-mail our secretary at [email protected]. If wished,
you may just give your first name when you call. The
book used in the program is provided free of charge.
Dear Parishioners and Friends at
St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve,
May the Lord give you peace.
We are making great progress as we look to Easter and beyond to
Pentecost. I thank you for the many ways that you have
participated in the opportunities for refreshment and renewal.
We are blessed with candidates for the Sacraments at Easter. I
invite you to mark your calendar and plan to join us for the
celebrations of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil.
As we have in the past we will begin Holy Thursday with a
shared meal and reflection in the Franciscan Center before
proceeding over to the church to continue the celebration. These
are the sacred days of the church calendar and are wonderful for
all of us as we seek to deepen our experience of God’s gracious
presence.
Our Gaelic and Garlic dinner is next week. I hope you have your
tickets. There are two opportunities for you to share in this meal.
Celebrate St. Patrick (Gaelic) and St. Anthony (Garlic) with us!
I am delighted to announce that we will recognize the gifts of
some members of our community this month. Sal and Karen
Randazzo will be recognized on Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m. at
the Cathedral by Archbishop Blair and receive the St. Joseph
Medal. I am grateful for their service to our Golf Tournament.
Denis Geary, Vincent Loffredo, and Ray Hardman will be
recognized here with the Francis Medal from Holy Name
Province in recognition of years of service as sacristan for Denis;
the development and leadership in the mentor’s program for
Vincent; and years of commitment to our music ministry as
cantor, director of the Bass Clef Choir, and leadership in our
Gallery Choir for Ray. I am grateful to each person for his/her
gifts and ask you to join me in recognizing these members for the
ways in which they have helped in the building of our
community.
I am becoming more and more aware of the power of cyber
bullying and its effects - especially on our younger members. I
am sure that we are all committed to charity and generosity in
our lives and how that extends to our cyber communication. It is
also important for younger members to have a safe person and
place to talk, to let others know what they are experiencing. I will
meet with our team here to discuss ways of engaging this
conversation and then invite us all to a greater conversation in
order to strengthen the dignity and giftedness of each member. I
am very aware of the depression and suicide resulting from the
pain and isolation felt by those who experience this bullying. I
ask parents to be particularly attentive. I also ask you to be
attentive to the experiences of those in your circle of friends as
well as those who are so often left out of the circle. The
conversion of this season invites greater appreciation for the gifts
and talents of each person. We are also called to a great respect
for each person’s dignity, respect that is essential to the building
of a community.
● Join us for the parish Gaelic
and Garlic event on March 21?
Tickets are available after Mass
this weekend – come join in the
fun; all are welcome.
● St. Patrick-St. Anthony Walk
Against Hunger Team has been
the top fundraising “faith” group in 12 out of the last 13
years. Help us accomplish this goal again! Next week
there will be information on signing up for the team and
walking with us in person, in spirit, or to sponsor a
member of the pastoral staff!

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
All that we have and all that we are comes from the
Lord. “We are truly His handiwork,” says St. Paul in the
second reading, “created in Christ Jesus to lead the life
of good deeds which God prepared for us in advance.”
LIVING STEWARDSHIP
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish
who remain steadfast in their Lenten promises through
increased prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving.

The Red Cross is in need of the smiling faces that greet
community members as they check in to donate the
precious gift of blood. This role is known as a Blood
Donor Ambassador. At blood drives hosted primarily
during business hours M-F, Ambassadors make sure that
donors review important information about the donation
process and direct them to a nurse with questions they
might have. After community members donate blood,
the Ambassador offers them a snack and chats with
them as they relax for a bit post-donation. Ambassadors
also encourage donors to become volunteers
themselves. For more information and to sign up,
contact Stephanie Boles, CVA at 860-678-2793.

matter the situation.

“I Will Appoint You a Light to the Nations” (Isa 49:6): The Servant Songs in Isaiah
Saturday, March 28 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
The book of the prophet Isaiah is one of the most important and influential books of the Hebrew Scriptures. In
the second section of the book (Isaiah 40-55), four passages, commonly called Servant Songs, bring into focus
the role of the servant. The prophet does not disclose the identity of this figure: Is it Israel? Israel in exile? The
prophet himself? This weekend session will consider these four songs, and the identity and role of the
unnamed Servant. We will also consider the ways in which the New Testament authors used these songs to
clarify the identity of Jesus and his mission.
Presenter: Paul Sansone
Suggested Offering: $15.00; please bring your own bag lunch for Saturday.
How to Pray for Your Adult Children
Tuesdays, April 7, 14, 21 & 28; 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Our children are all grown up and suddenly their lives become much more complicated.
They encounter the stress of relationships, employment, financial security and health issues.
Some adult children may struggle with their faith and Church connections. Others may be in
danger when dealing with alcohol/drug addiction, or marital problems. These are some of
the real life situations that can and do happen. All parents/grandparents of adult children
are invited to explore John and Therese Boucher’s book, Praying for Our Adult Sons and
Daughters. We cannot change our grown children nor can we ‘fix’ or take away any of the life challenges they
encounter. What we can do is learn how to place our grown children “in the Heart of God”. Participants are
asked to read the introduction and the first three chapters initially; book available through Amazon.
Facilitators: Patricia Dressler and Melanie Beaule
Suggested Offering: $20.00
