SISTER PARISH UPDATE
Thank you to all who stopped by the Haiti
Giving Tree to speak with members of the
Sister Parish Committee and to those who
participated in making donations to St.
Genevieve School. Your donations pay the
teachers’ salaries and support the lunch
program for the students. We hope that you enjoyed the
photos of the adults and children from our Sister Parish
and the school.
The Feast of St. Genevieve will be celebrated at the
10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, January 25. This will be a
Mass with a Haitian touch, in song, drumming, and the
offertory procession. Please join us.
The next trip to Haiti will be April 13-20. There will be an
opportunity to see the progress of the new church
construction. Call the parish office for more information

A poignant look as a family suffers the downward spiral
of homelessness. A tight knit family is forced onto the
streets of New York City and into a homeless shelter in
this heartfelt film.

Dear Parishioners and Friends at
St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve,
May the Lord give you peace.
I thank you for all your shared gifts during the
Christmas season. Your presence and hospitality touched
many hearts. I also thank all of our many ministers for
their participation in our times of prayer, celebrations and
meals. The Giving Tree ministry coordinated by our Social
Justice Committee provided many children with the
perfect gift at Christmas. I am sure you will hear from
Trudi regarding time and talent, and the Sister Parish Tree
enables us to deepen our commitment to St. Genevieve. I
thank you.
This weekend we welcome some of the people who
will celebrate the initiation sacraments with us at Easter.
We have a larger than usual group preparing to enter
more deeply into the life of the community through these
sacraments. Naturally, each time we gather to celebrate
Baptism, Confirmation or Eucharist, we are called to be
renewed in the depth of God’s love and the mission
entrusted to disciples. The witness of your life calls others
to this life of discipleship. Your participation, presence,
and hospitality are a beacon for others. I thank you.
We celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King
this Monday. We keep his memory as we pledge ourselves
to greater openness to the richness of God’s grace in each
person. Perhaps we can remember the dream of this great
minister of the Gospel and embrace the incredible
diversity that transcends the arbitrary limits imposed by
those who have forgotten how to dream. As I consider his
vision, I see the image of the Reign of God enlivened by
the chorus of sisters and brothers singing God’s praise by
the witness of our lives. We remember the words of St.
Paul in his letter to the Galatians, “In Christ there is not
Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female - all are one.”
For Paul there is no one who is “less than” any other
member of the community. Let us work and pray for that
communion.
Next Sunday the Mass at 10:00 will be a celebration of
our communion with our Sister Parish, St. Genevieve. We
will have special music, drummers and a festive
celebration of the Eucharist as we give thanks for the
many ways we have been blessed by our partnership with
the people of Haiti. The new church building is in
beginning construction. It is hard to believe that it is five
years since the earthquake that caused so much
destruction. Fr. Cid will be happy to share with you the
details of the building project that will house the church of
the people of St. Genevieve.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond
eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May
we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and
be ready to say like the Psalmist, “Here I am, Lord; I
come to do your will.”
LIVING STEWARDSHIP
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish
who answer their call to service by assisting Catholic
Charities’ Housing Program to ensure the physical, social
and spiritual well-being of residents through access to
safe and affordable facilities.

CLARE GALLERY
The Clare Gallery is pleased to present Intimate
Spirits: Photography and Poetry in Conversation, as
an exhibition by artist and poet Sister Jo-Ann Iannotti,
O.P. The exhibition displays both poetry and
photography in concert accenting the power of word and
image. The artist wishes to draw viewers into the space
between themselves and the two creative expressions
allowing the works to be “seen”, as well as “read.” This
exhibition is free and open to the public and extends
from January 19 to March 15, 2015. A reception will be
held on Thursday, March 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. At the
reception, Sister Jo-Ann will discuss the intimacy that
results from spending time with images and words and
her various processes of creative expression.

Our Prayer Network is available to receive your prayer
requests. You are invited to call the Franciscan Center
for Urban Ministry, 756-4034, x-162, with prayer
intentions that will be handled with care and in a
confidential manner. At x-162, please leave a message
containing your intention. It is not necessary to give the
name of the individual for whom prayers are being
requested, but it would be helpful if you could give some
idea of the situation about which members of the Prayer
Network will be praying. This extension is checked daily
and the intentions are called out over the network as
quickly as possible. Also, e-mail requests can now
be made to [email protected].

The Hartt School Community Division of the University of Hartford presents a
concert featuring Celesti Sondato and the High School Chamber Choir: TO SING
AND TO DANCE! Conductors Bryan Zaros and Jack Pott will lead these fearless
ensembles as they feature choral music inspired by international folk rhythms and
performed in collaboration with local dancers. Songs will include dances from
Ireland, Greece, Spain, Israel, and India! Free admission.
FEAST OF SAINT GENEVIEVE

Next Sunday the Mass at 10:00 will be a celebration
of our communion with our Sister Parish, St.
Genevieve. We will have special music, drummers
and a festive celebration of the Eucharist as we give
thanks for the many ways we have been blessed by
our partnership with the people of Haiti.
Saint Geneviève (c. 419/422—Paris 502/512) is the
patron saint of Paris. Her feast is actually kept on
January 3. She dedicated herself to a Christian Life.
In 451 she led a “prayer marathon” that was said to
have saved Paris by diverting Attila’s Huns away
from the city. When Childeric I besieged the city in
464 and conquered it, she acted as an intermediary
between the city and its conqueror, collecting food
and convincing Childeric to release his prisoners.
